  1. I'll have the Pitstops please. Jeff
  2. Nah. Gave up on it. Applied 30 nm to a ratchet ring spanner to judge the feel and then applied that feèl to the plug. Should be adequate!
  3. Anyone have a clue? I can't find it anywhere!
  4. Too late now as they're all torqued up to 20nm! I'll probably leave it a couple of days and test for leaks unless anyone has any strong advice to the contrary?
  5. I've just refitted my sump today and I wonder what people's views are on the curing time for the sealant? The Loctite 5980 Technical Data Sheet says 21 days for full strength which seems a bit excessive! Jeff Loctite 5980 Tech Data Sheet_2.pdf
  6. I don't know whether I'm just unlucky or whether Ford use crap alloy for their blocks. One of the sump bolt holes stripped when I took it off to repair a leak a couple of months ago; unfortunately whilst the weep at the timing cover was cured another one developed at the back! When I put the sump back after the second resealing today another bloody bolt hole stripped! I've been able to fix both with the preferred bodge of copper wire in the holes without having to tap new threads and both have torqued up! But I'm curious as to whether anyone else has experienced this problem? If it leaks again I think it can stay put as otherwise I'll end up with more copper in the block than aluminium! Jeff
  7. Does anyone have a set of installation instructions from Raceline for the sump that they could email me? Jeff
  8. A combination of heat gun, WD40 and Wood Silk has achieved a good finish with virtual elimination of the spots unless examined really closely! Thanks for all the advice.
  9. WD40 seems to be beneficial and I've bought some Wood Silk to try as well. Thanks for all the recommendations.
  10. Does anyone have any idea what these spots that have appeared from nowhere are?
  11. Yeah something's not right. I'll have to take it off and do it myself!
  12. All very neat now but there's a fair gap on both sides where the rubber pulls out of the channel as it's tensioned. I can't remember what it was like before the new screen. Does it look right guys?

  14. Guess what? Auto Windscreens had fitted the wrong way up! They've refitted with a new rubber for which I shall bill them. But Caterham really should supply some fitting instructions with their parts if appropriate.
  15. I have noticed a whistling noise from somewhere at above 45 mph and finally managed to trace it to the windscreen. When you push on the base of the frame in the centre the noise stops! I recently had a whole new screen and frame fitted and the guy was very pleasant but admitted it was the first Caterham he'd done, so it was a bit of a learning exercise. It looks ok apart from a couple of creases but obviously isn't seating properly. Before I start squirting sealant everywhere does anyone have any bright ideas? Jeff
  16. Strange. I'll just fit a new top bush andsee how it goes.
  17. The lugs must have worn off mine which I suppose is why the bush slipped down the tube. Do these bushes need replacing regularly?
  18. Thanks Chris and Ian. I've replaced the old damaged sleeve temporarily but will order a new bush for when it works loose. The bushes don't seem to have prominent lugs to locate them and are therefore prone to shifting?! Do they need regular replacement? My car's only done 5000 mls! The bottom sleeve did pop out Chris btw and your tip to use a skt worked a treat. Jeff
  19. Can somebody tell me what is the bit of white plastic on my steering column?! I've just noticed it although it may always have been there but wonder whether it should be pushed back in? Jeff
  20. I took the barrel off (the security bolts had not been sheared off) and it seems that the column does not have a collet welded on for the steering lock to engage with; presumably because it has a Momo removeable wheel! Which is presumably why Caterham did not shear the bolts off on assembly? So it looks as if I was imagining the steering lock; must have been thinking of my previous 7!
  21. I've just noticed my steering lock seems to have gone kaput. No previous issues but has just stopped engaging. Thoughts anyone? Jeff
  22. Ye God's but Caterham do complicate things. Why cannot they just replicate the set-up used by somebody like Ford? After all it's not asking that much to have a working speedometer in the 21st century is it?! I suspect some people may find this attitude to a known problem a charming quirkiness but personally I think it is a sign of incompetence and indifference to real customer service.
  23. Well folks. I checked the gap and it was 1 mm and flashing fine. Nevertheless I reduced it to 0.9 mm by way of experiment. And it stopped flashing! Moved it back to 1 mm and it started flashing. The sensor had considerable free play in the mounting hole so I ensured it was central on the trigger wheel. Road tested and solid as a rock (although I only went up to 50). I note the above reference to temperature. Can't understand why something so simple to every other car on the road becomes complicated for Caterham? It's not exactly rocket science.
  24. At least it's relatively accessible!
