  1. so I'm still learning here, how do you remove the seal to check the grease? Or is that only possible on the old ones? I was thinking of taking the damage one apart for interest.
  2. Thanks for the detail Bricol. The bearing rotated smoothly when it was stuck in, not so sure after wellying it out, although I haven't checked. I spoke with Derek at CC this morning and he has confirmed they should be installed in the carrier, as a result he is sending out a replacement set installed in the carriers. This heating them up process, are you saying if i heat them up in the oven as per previous comments they are just going to drop in? When I got the damm thing stuck I did use a hot air gun on it, I guess not hot enough though. I guess there are solutions to many of these issues, but having little experience and only the expectations set by CC in terms of "basic tools" and if you can do flat pack you can build a 7, heating stuff up in an oven isn't exactly the first thing I'd think of.
  3. Hi All, I need to drill either new holes for new rivets or drill existing rivets out for the oil catch tank located forward near side. The question I have however is how do you get a drill between the chassis top cross members and drill straight. I only have a smallish Dewalt cordless drill and its fairly small but there seems no way I can fit the drill in there between the chassis tubes. I've got to be missing something here,???? Mark
  4. Went back to the garage over an idea with a brake winder kit, didn't work. However I padded out my vice with floor mats, got a lump hammer and ~36mm socket, one very hard hit and it was out.
  5. its actually straight at the moment, but I just cant get it out. I cant really get sufficient purchase on it.
  6. i just can't get the old one out, so looks like I will have to go see a garage, as well as get another,
  7. Isle of Man so usually a couple of days more.
  8. I take it Caterham are the cheapest ?
  9. thanks for the kind offer, let me see if I can get the thing out now. I'll need to buy another bearing, i guess that will take some time to be delivered.
  10. its only slight damage, but to be honest I have no idea whether slight is significant or not with this stuff. I'll post an image in a second, please comment away.
  11. well that didn't go well. Screw it up and slightly bent one of the inner races, its jammed at angle. So much for basic tools. grrrrr
  12. I'll go put them in the microwave to speed things up ;-)
  13. Apologies for the other 3 posts, not sure what happened there, it seem to cut the content and post 3 times. Is it normal to need to insert wheel bearings into the rear hub carriers? I seem to have a set of bearings which would appear to fit the carriers, although I cant find any mention in the manual. If so any recommendations on fitting, they are of course really tight and I don't have a press. Thanks all.
  14. I’ll have to check when I put the rear of the car on movable stands again. at the moment I’m working through the rear of the car. Will update the post once I know more.
  15. i wasn't sure if that would get into the gearbox oil. Should I move it back out slightly and grease then?
  16. Hi All, Another build question. I've just installed the prop shaft into the back of the 5 speed box. Everything seems to have gone OK. I removed the plastic white sealing bung, aligned the prop and inserted. There is no mention of a rubber seal, I guess that is correct? Apologizes in advance if its a dumb question, I'm learning a lot here!. Thanks
  17. Are you saying my install is still wrong? Or the design is bad? thanks
  18. i am using coppaslip, but didnt in that case. thanks for the reminder.
  19. Yeah swapped saws and went through it much better. More practice would help too. Anyway its all done and on. End result not too bad. Thanks for all the help and support
  20. I thought this, but being new to Caterham, i figured accept it as kit car life etc. Guess not. I too feel its pretty rubbish. 3 hack saw blades later and still going.... sigh
