  1. Scott, my diff casing is OK but as the CWP is damaged I'm advised it is cheaper to buy the complete assy from Caterham than buy all the parts including bearings etc. Having said that, I haven't got all of the info back as yet. What I haven't been able to track down yet is the supplier of the SPC LSD but have seen positive info on them, any leads please Cheers. Tony
  2. Thanks for that, I have machine tools so can copy the diff I have unless someone has a drawing, but as I learnt about how poor the life of the BMW diff is from the BMW motorsport guys then I think buying used is an unwise option
  3. Chris, Thanks for your comments, and yes, my carbon plates have broken up after 7k miles so I need to fix it. I have spoken to RRT who were super helpful and are looking at a new diff and rebuilding the Titan with sintered plates which is the most straightforward option but....... A) I would prefer a lower maintenance and quieter LSD such as ZF or SPC or maybe Tracsport, and would also consider a Torque biasing option such as Quaife or MLR B) Talking to the BMW motorsport fraternity they absolutely rubbish the durability of the BMW '168' diff as very weak when faced with any sort of power. I recognize the shortcomings of the Sierra units as well but at least i have two proper Ford ones in my garage, and did 35000 miles in my last 7 with a Caterham one, which wasn't quiet but did survive and didn't deteriorate over those miles So I'm looking at options with durability and maintenance in mind as I do relatively high mileages, 7k to 8k per year. What does amaze me is that Caterham chose such a poor replacement for the Sierra diff. Clearly its great to get a range of opinions and experiences from you guys to help with the solution, so thanks again for any input Tony
  4. Thanks, I'm led to believe that the chassis will take the Sierra diff still, but its the bits that hook it all up that need to be compatible. I'm also told that the BMW casing is machined to fit the Caterham but I have no details so if anyone knows that I would be interested Cheers. T
  5. Mazda 5 speed. Its a 2016 car
  6. Hi All, has anyone reverted to a Sierra diff from a BMW. I have a 420R that has blown the diff and am considering fitting a Sierra unit as I have a couple of spares albeit without an LSD. What parts would I need and does anyone have them? I'm guessing prop or prop flange and some of the drive shaft components?? Thanks Tony

  16. Replace with mechanical Id say. Over three years and 24k miles, sender failures were only beaten In running costs by fuel and tyres. I have lost count as to how many I had to replace, maybe my car had some freaky harmonics, but I even mounted them remotely on rubber damped mountings and still had issues. If I had kept the car I'd have gone mechanical, and with many tears of use in my Elan, Escort Twin Cam and several race cars have never had a feed pipe failure. If you are nervous go OTT and use braided hose

  19. I used dome head stainless steel Allen bolts from screwfix, big bag for very little money. Shorten the bolt and fit from underneath still using the penny washer, the 8mm nylocs that I again got from Screwfix in Stainless sit in the seat channel inside and can be done up with the spanner on end or more easily with a screwdriver wedge against the side of the channel.
  20. I have just bought a 420r that had Caterham RBTB's fitted recently along with the generic Caterham map. After my first few drives and tank of fuel I concluded it was running horribly rich. I took it to the 'two Steves' for a proper mapping session and they transformed the car and improved the fuel consumption by around 30%. It now drives superbly, is totally tractable, gives an honest 209 bhp on ordinary unleaded and with my relatively high mileage (8000 a year in my previous Roadsport) it's affordable. In my view, whatever mods you do and whichever TB's you choose, or leave standard, a proper mapping session will be where your biggest gains will come from. If I was doing the mods myself I'd go for Jenvvey type TB's as the guys that know say there is no advantage to the roller type and use the change on a decent 4-2-1 manifold, that would get you all the grunt and torque delivery. (BTW I run a single seater with a 2l spec BTCC engine from the good old 300plus bhp days, it's on Jenvvey's and single injectors and behaves superbly, rollers and slide throttles were tried in its development)
  21. I’m interested in this as 8 have just swapped my 2005 Roadsport for a 420r with small headlights that are low mounted and they are really dim compared with the high mounted 7” ones. Similarly, I’d be curious about feed back on the LED conversion for the small headlight units. Cheers Tony
