  1. I had the same concern when I began track days.

Apparently there's an App you can get which turns your smart phone into a noise meter, but I don't know how accurate it is.

The real problem, as I understand it, is that the noise level of your car varies with the temperature an humidity, so what might scrape through one day, wont make it another day.

Organisers do understand the predicament, and will do all they can to help, like in my case, once "identifying a rattle in the car that wasn't the exhaust noise" *wink* .  They'll also sometimes tell you not to push your foot all the way down on the loud pedal.

I'm sure others far more experienced than I, will give their views, but, ultimately, it's our responsibility to keep within the regulations. *grumpy*

  2. Here’s an astonishing opportunity, thanks to the incredible generosity of Canadian member Simon Melrose.  I promise you that this is an incredible opportunity you’re unlikely to get again.

Some of you might remember Simon features in Lowflying in September 2019, when he recounted his story of his beloved Caterham Super Seven HPC, Marigold, which ended with a dramatic picture of it crushed beneath an SUV, entitled “Marigold and the luckiest man in the world”.

Since then, Simon had booked a dream three-day Lotus Licence course with the Lotus Driving Academy at Hethel.  With the travel restrictions we are all only too aware of, Simon has been unable to attend the coveted course.  Being a great supporter of the Lotus Seven Club, and in an act of astonishing generosity, Simon has donated his course in support of the Club charity, Prostate Cancer Research.

As Simon’s donation is in aid of our charity, Simon Poole, of the Lotus Driving Academy, has agreed to split the course into three separate one day courses, each to be raffled as a separate prize.  So that’s three lucky winners from our Club.  One Bronze Level course, worth £499, one Silver Level course, worth £599, and one Gold level course, worth £799.

Simon Poole strongly recommends that anyone winning the Silver or Gold prize should already have advanced competence at car handling to get the best out of the day.  The Gold Level is suitable for seasoned driver with substantial previous quality track experience, so for instance the course involves the application of power-on oversteering, which is usually first taught on the Silver Level course.  I have to confess, that would be well beyond my own capability.  LDA will give coaching at the appropriate level for the abilities of the winner, however, though they might not have the skill to gain the utmost that particular course has to offer.  The LDA has also said that the winner of the Gold prize may, if he or she wishes, exchange it for a Bronze or Silver course, with the balance in value made up in LDA merchandise.

The lucky winners may make arrangements with Lotus Driving Academy to book their courses on any of the many available scheduled days this year.  Additionally, LDA will allow the lucky winners to upgrade their course to whichever level they wish, paying only the difference between the value of the course you have won, and the course you wish to do.

Raffle tickets will be £10 each, and you may buy as many tickets as you wish, to increase your chance of winning one of these outstanding prizes.  Tickets will be available by logging in to the Club’s LoveAdmin website here,

    https://app.loveadmin.com/Login/CB7489E7AA64EAC7618F7D5B25D15516.htm

or by ‘phoning the office on 01873 777303, or email adminteam@lotus7.club,

Tickets are available from 8th June to 16th July 2021, with the random draw being made on Tuesday, 20th July, when the lucky winners will be contacted by ‘phone.

    Terms & conditions:

    1. The closing date for the prize draw is 16th July 2021. Any entries made after this date will not be included in the draw.

    2. The prize draw is open to Club members only.

    3. Entries can be made be the following methods only: i) online on the Club website via your LoveAdmin account, or ii) by calling the office on 01873 777303.

    4. The winner will be drawn at random on 2oth July 2021.

    5. Submission of an entry implies acceptance of these terms and conditions in full.

You can believe me when I tell you that I’ll be buying quite a few tickets.

We’re presenting some of the details of the courses here, but if you’d like more information on the courses and on the Lotus Driving Academy, you can find it at their website here, https://www.lotusdrivingacademy.com/courses-dates-prices/

Details of the Bronze, Silver and Gold Level courses are in the pictures below but may also be found here:-

Just how often do you have the chance to have an ex-Formula 1 driver as an instructor?

Once again, we have to thank Simon Melrose for his amazingly generous gift, and to Simon Poole of the Lotus Driving Academy for his willingness in accommodate our request.

What an opportunity.  Good luck with your ticket.

  3. Further to my thread of 27 May, We've now resolved the misunderstanding.

Members can order direct from Avon, and you can have deliveries made to any UK address, but there is a charge for doing so.

The delivery cost is by weight but, as an example, is £20 for a set of four 185/55R13 ZZS.

I've amended the Avon Motorsport entry in the Members' Benefits section here: -

    https://www.lotus7.club/membership/special-offers-members/avon-tyres

And Avon's brilliant guide to 7 tyres can be found here: -

    https://www.lotus7.club/guides/avon-tyre-information

Please accept my Apologies for any confusion.

  4. Avon Tyres

Further to my notice regarding the definitive Avon Tyre document their Motorsport division have generously put together, with tips on tyre pressures and temperatures and information specifically for Caterham Sevens, and produced specifically at the behest of the Club

I can now announce that, with even greater generosity, the company has agreed to extend further benefits to Club members.

For details, please see the new entry in our Members' Benefits section, here:-

  5. tangomikeromeo, the hoods can be reproofed.  Mine is an Oxted Trimming (Thundersports) one.  I can't remember what they recommended for proofing, but if you contact them they'll be happy t tell you.

  6. I know I'm not being much help here, but...

You say "pouring up the windscreen".  Was it pouring as if the washer jets were working, as in a full squirt, or as if the water pressure of a full bottle under heavy breaking was pushing it out?

And what happens if you operate the wash function, does that still work as normal?
