  1. Not sure how much work you normally do on your Caterham but if I was doing it myself I would remove the scuttle and remove the loom tape to identify the melted insulation, and using a wiring diagram ascertain what circuits are affected.  If the damage is limited it may be possible to repair the loom.  It may be difficult to identify the cause as it could be a number of different things.

  2. I bought it specifically for the headlight nut, not for anything else.  Not tight.  Will see how it goes as I think the nut is actually 13/16" but hopefully 21mm will do.  A 13/16" spanner was twice the price.

  3. With such low mileage it's going to be like new.  Cars are worth what people are prepared to pay, I see that there is another CSR at Joe Macari at £50K with a R500 engine(never knew of that model.?).

Good luck with the sake, car sounds amazing.

  4. To me this sort of thing could have been designed out when they went to the metric chassis?  Could some sort of plastic trap be designed and 3 D printed to be stuck into the area with silicon sealant to stop wet crud getting down the gap?

  5. Interesting experience Geoff. I have always wondered why the Banner only lasts about 3-4 years when people have told me their experience.  My previous Blackbird had a Vidor battery that lasted over 10 years on a Accumate with no issues.  I replaced it with a Bosch one that seemed to be doing well until I sold the car.  My new R500D has the Banner  and based on your experience and the drain of the immobiliser of up to 22mA the charger could be disconnected for a few weeks(32 days max if the Banner is 17Ah?) to see if it would extend battery life?

Car will always start but will not always stop. If I stall the engine the dash sits there lit up and making a buzzing sound but the start/stop button fails to turn off the ignition. The immobiliser seems to be working fine and as expected. All other switches seem to function ok when driving. If I disconnect the battery and reconnect then the ignition remains off and I can restart the car, but then have problems switching off again. At the weekend I drove to Compton Abbas for breakfast. Car would not turn off there so disconnected battery and reconnected, this was after fitting the new start switch. Drove home and same thing. I am wondering if the problem is related to the lights being on or heat as I have popped to get fuel without the lights on and it has worked fine.
