  1. Advice please. Just had the Think Auto mechanical oil pressure gauge fitted and the length of hose between the sender mounted on the offside engine mount to the gauge as supplied is far too long. I have measured it and the length would appear to be 5'06" but that doesn't allow much excess. I remember reading somewhere it is sensible to allow for the gauge to be pulled out of the dashboard and the hose joined to the gauge; and of course cannot now find this topic. Can anyone who has a sender mounted in a similar fashion, confirm if a 5'06" length of (Aeroquip) hose is too short / too long / just right?
  2. Hi Alastair I opted for a non cat system but he does offer cats. I haven't noticed any change other than the exhaust note. The car is pretty rapid anyway, and I suspect these things are very subjective. I think the difference will be noticeable on track days where all the performance is used.
  3. I mentioned I do track days and Graham fitted a large (repackage) silencer, although he did mention when I picked it up he could have used a smaller one as the car is noticeably quieter now. To my ears it is still noisy, which is a good thing, but you can hear the induction more clearly.
  4. I think price depends on the spec as Graham wanted to know engine and output. I have a 1.6 EU2 Superport so about 135 bhp and that cost £800 all in (£500 for manifold and £300 for system). The cheapest I found by far and he is recommended by Dave Andrews who clearly knows his subject.
  5. Just had Graham FRANKLAND of EXHAUSTS BY DESIGN / EBD in BUCKINGHAM, fabricate and fit a 4-2-1 manifold and system on my 1.6 (EU2) Superlight. I found him to be very reasonably priced and the exhaust was very well made. I discovered him after reading Dave Andrews DVA website and found him very professional. Well worth considering if you are considering a new exhaust.
  6. Hello I have an Imperial Chassis S3 and have just purchased a Petty Strut which came without the bottom bolt. This is the bolt which is used to bolt the strut to the side of the car. Do you know the bolt size including length, please?
  7. Thanks everyone I will work through your recommendations. George
  8. Hi Revilla Thanks for your input. The short anwer is I don't know what model starter I have. The engone would not run on its own after 20 seconds. However, I wiggled and checked all the connections I could easily lay me hands on and the engine started. Time will tell if this was just a random glitch or a more significant issue. Thanks again George
  9. Any updates? I think I may have the same problem
  10. Update: I used jump leads to try and start the car thinking that the battery may be down on power (albeit it was new this year). This made no appreciable difference to the engine note as it turned over. I could smell fuel and was concerned that the engine may flood. I slowly opened the throttle to WOT and closed it and tried starting it, again. The engine turned over fine oil pressure rose but it would still not start. I tried again and as I did so I opened the throttle slightly using the accelorator and the car started and ran roughly BUT would only run with the throttle being held open. As soon as I closed the throttle the car stalled. So I am happy that the immobiliser is disarmed but do not know why the car will not start.
  11. I have been using the search engine but can't find these symptoms. I have a EU2 1.6 K Series with a FIA battery switch and starter button. With the power switched on: I use the fob to arm the immobiliser. Once the red LED settles to a steady flash; I then disarm the immobilser and the LED goes out; I then turn the ignition on and can hear the fuel pump priming and the usualy clicking from under the bonnet; I then press the starter button and the engine startsand then immediately cuts out - as if the immobilser is still armed. I have repeated the process a number of times without success. The engine will continue to turn over on the starter button but will not fire. Any ideas what is going on?
  12. Am I right in thinking that an EU2 K Series has a single coil?
  13. I know the standard advice is that 175/55/13 are fitted to the 6J rims and that 205/55/13's are fitted to 8J rims. However, it appears that the 205/55/13 and the current ZZS 215/55/13 tyres are within spec for a 6J wheel. So why use a 8J wheel other than convention? Especially, as the 8J wheel can foul the rear suspension. N.b. I have used the car bible "ideal rim width calculator" to check this.
  14. Because, I am away from home so cannot get to the car and a friend has offered to make one up for me, if I can specify the required length; hence my question. Also, I also don't know where the lambda sensor will be located as I have a standard Caterham internal collector system (with the sensor in the manifold), which means measuring my current system is not ideal and therefore does mean I can get it wrong!
  15. Hmm the height of the system or not to be more accurate is an issue. I am almost certain I will go for the EBD manifold and system, not least because Dave Andrews recommends them on his website.
  16. Right I am going to extend the loom and use the econoseal connectors. A question for anyone who has extended the loom for a lambda sensor mounter in front of the silencer is "How long does the extension need to be"? I have got a figure of 8" - 11" in my head but cannot find where I got that from!
  17. New k-series exhaust gasket duly ordered.
  18. Thanks for the advice guys. Re. The exhaust manifold gasket I am not sure what gasket an EBD manifold takes but presumed it might be different as it has four individual primaries.
  19. I like the EBD price but not sure if there is standard K series exhaust gasket (which I would need to source) and again not sure how straight forward it would be to get the Lambda sensor wiring loom extended.
  20. Advertised on behalf of my friend Carl who is looking to buy a Caterham. This may be of interest to someone on here. 21. Caterham 4-1 Exhaust SKU: EX73K list price £1074 http://caterhamparts.co.uk/product.php?id_product=199 I have a 2000 1.6 SuperLight, which is fitted with the EU2 K-Series engine and the SuperSport kit. The car currently has the standard 4-1 internal collector manifold and system. I am after an external collector exhaust and have looked at EBD (£800 fitted but needs the lambda sensor wiring extending and a suitable manifold gasket sourcing) and Powerspeed (£1200 + fitting). I spoke with Richard at Caterham Parts today and he researched the subject (due to the various options available), and came back to me to recommend the EX73K, although he needs to confirm the current price with the manufacturer. Are any of you familiar with this exhaust? Is this quiet enough for track day? I note that this is described as a race exhaust and I am not sure if race meetings have the same noise poillution levels as track days.
  22. New hazard warning switch ordered. Thanks for the advice.
