  1. Hi that's us all was going well till the car refused to start whilst in Leon this morning with the engine warning light on Currently at a Suzuki dealership where they are checking the car over whilst we are enjoying more tapas and cervezas for another night. No big deal as we only book one night ahead and it depends on what they find after the diagnostic Great to bump into you that way Best wishes Martin and Jo
  2. I sent the text shortly after our meet up, do maybe it didn't make the cut for the October issue, let's wait and see if we appear next month martin
  3. Hi Boys, here is the text I sent to the editor of lowflying plus some of the photos Sunday the 13th of Septmber was the date chosen as the largest 160 get together in the UK at The Pot Kiln pub in Frilsham, West Berkshire. This venue was chosen as it seemed a central location for the 5 of us all coming from different parts of the country. It was a bit off the beaten track, but once there then meeting up were Michel, Peter, Ned, Simon and Martin for the first time. Five 160's in a row! A great sight to see and all different in their own way. We had all built them roughly at the same time and had copious emails and blatchat exchanges during each of our builds, including 3 excellent blogs by Simon, Ned and Michael that helped us all to overcome the challenges of a Caterham. So we having spent the last almost 10 months swapping notes, photos and email so it was a pleasure to finally get together to re-live the highs and lows of a Caterham build. We all took the opportunity to extensively review the cars, did a lot of non-stop chatting and generally chewing the cud for a couple of hours about all our build problems was great fun and something I'm sure we will repeat. We have also now built up a bit of experience building a 160, so if there is anyone out there building or contemplating a build then we would be delighted to share our combined knowledge of building these fun cars"
  4. Great to meet you all today and put faces to names . Don't forget to send me your photos for the low flying article regards martin

  7. Great news, so hopefully there will be 5 160s on the 13th at the Pot Kiln. Should be the biggest 160 turnout in the UK ever! keepinf everything crossed for good weather Martin
  8. Ok let's go with that as an option, how about 12 noon for a meet? It would be good if everyone can confirm that they have the details regards martin

  14. I can do the first 2 Sunday's in September for a potential meet. Hope fully if all the 160s can make it, so Peter, Mike, Ned, Simon and myself with maybe Newbury as a central point. Does everyone still read this blog.? regards martin
  15. Now that Ned's car has passed it's IVA then give it 10 or 15 days to get the plates, we could tee something up for a 160 meet in Sept or Oct. I haven't seen anything from Peter or Mike but at least 3 of us are still in contact, does someone want to suggest a few alternatives? Regards Martin
  16. Everything is crossed, I know what you are going through! Regards Martin
  17. HI All, thanks for the reminder, even though it is was on our calendar, family committments have got in the way, so I can't make it, apologies. I will be at the Hartley Wintney classic car meet on the Sunday, it is a kit/replica day http://www.whitelionantiques.co.uk/classic-car-meetings/ Regards Martin
  18. I can support that from some "on the ground" readings, after 60 mins on the motorway we'd had enough! 50mph is a very reasonable touring speed not too loud but decent enough speed anything else requires headphones or slight deafness to make to acceptable regards Martin
  19. I got my service record stamped by Caterham when they did the PBC but you need to remember to get it done. Also the manual is generic across all models but you need to follow the service intervals which is shown for a 160 martin
  20. Hi boys now back after a 1300 mile trip from France the car behaved faultlessly. The oil filter part numbers I have are for Suzuki 16510 81404 and for the replacement that I got from caterham Crawley is Bosch P2058 but they gave me the wrong one to start with so I hope that is correct. I'm using the naff caterham handbook that I downloaded from their web site, its not great so I'm trying to record things as I go. regards martin
  21. Hi Simon i have the part numbers written down at home and can get them at the weekend martin
  22. Yes driven it in the very wet, no problem as long as you are not too heavy with the go pedal. The roof held up really well but I had some water ingress in through the doors by the window seal that dripped onto the armrest. I will put some glue/sealant on the window seal. Strangely only happened on one side . The car had been great and so far behaved faultlessly but we have another 4 days and about 500 miles to go so won't want to tempt fate Martin PS sorry to hear about your IVA Ned, I know what you are going through!
  23. Hi all now down in deepest France with 1,600 miles on the clock, as I'm sure you are all aware, fabulous car but not the ideal touring machine. I'm averaging 48mpg, not going too fast but after 120miles we've often had enough for the day. Luggage had been Ok as in using a touring bag on top of the boot. I check the oil every day with no usage at all and since the oil and filter change the pressure isn't quite as low as it was before on warm idle. The ground clearance has been a problem particularly over French speed humps, Ive grounded the seat nuts a few times. The hood is great but after overnight heavy rain there is water in the foot wells but soon dries out. The car attracts attention, we've ben hooted, given thumbs up and generally stared/discussed wherever we go. Overall been great fun but don't plan on doing long distances unless you like discomfort Martin
