  1. Hi Simon, glad to hear you are having fun, I haven't checked my speedo but it came out well during the IVA. I've switched my mirrors to the doors as it helps to open the door fully and it seem as though the vibration is the same as the stanchion mounting so I'm glad I moved them. The rear mirror is hopeless over 4000 rpm Martin
  2. Hi Simon great news about the car I'm up to 900 miles now doing an oil and filter and rear axle oil change before we head to France on Thursday. I too have squeaky rear brakes but the noise is decreasing slowly and if you hit the brakes hard then all is good. I've grounded a few times going over speed bumps, it's much worse 2 up with luggage so I will have to be careful, about the ramps on the ferry! Car is great fun and seems to give between 40 and 45 mpg depending on how hard you hit the go pedal, back at the end of June for a full report Martin
  3. Hi I'm now up to 450 miles, did a trip to the coast today. The car is great and I love going up the gears once you are in 2nd. I've been concerned about the oil pressure gauge showing a very low(in the red) once the engine is warm at idle. I've been in contact with Caterham who've assured me that the gauge is only an indication and if the pressure is ok at higher revs thrn all is good. Simon I used Unibond double sided tape from Maplins for my number plates, the sticking power seems amazing, I found it after a blatchat search. I also used the hood in the pouring rain, grip was fun and one or two small leaks but nothing too serious Martin
  4. In my diary but it will only be me. My V5 arrived today well done Swansea so now legal but the weather isn't and we are away for the weekend so it will just have to wait till monday regards martin

    Ned's 160: finished!

Hi Ned, car looks great, well done. I've found another little problem, as I was fitting my high level brake light I took one of the rear wheels off, down on the side panel close by both seats is a hole(it must be used by a different suspension arm) I put finger through it and discovered it went straight through to inside the wheel arch. Perfect place for major water ingress from the wheel arch itself. On one side it is completely open and on the other a small amount of wing piping partially covers the hole. I had some spare socket head screws left over so I've put a 40mm one in each hole with a washer and nut on the wheel arch side. i've also ordered some 16mm blanking grommets to make the paasenger side panel look neat I will let you all know if this works Martin
  6. Hi Ned it is underneath the dash on the passenger side, two way connector shaped like a large "T" with 2 wires, black and purple/black. Mine was very easy to find and you can get the male connector very easily which plugs directly into the back of the cigarette lighter socket regards martin
  7. Hi All, I've got the power socket all wired up and tried some velcro on the fuse box cover but it still seems a bit loose and rattly, has anyone cracked securing the fuse box so it is tight underneath the dash? Thanks Martin
  8. 8 or 9th Aug are good for me, but please don't let me stop the June event Martin
  9. Hi Simon we are coming back from France on the 20th and flying in to the fly-in meet at North Weald on the 21st but don't let me stop any arrangements, we could do the 28th if that helps regards martin
  10. Hi All, great news Simon about your IVA. Its now been 5 days since my paperwork went off, I've been busy installing a high level brake light (since I realised how low the 160 was!) my carbon fibre wing protectors and a power socket. I also picked up a oil filter and the touring bag in anticipation of the trip to France in June, so I hope the DVLA come through. Sounds like a 160 gathering might be getting closer Regards Martin
  11. Yes they are delivering back tomorrow, Martin the after sales chap has been very helpful in getting my car back and passing the IVA. It was important that the emissions were fixed as it will make future MOTs difficult. Now looking forward to getting it on the road martin
  12. Hi all, just heard from Caterham that my car passed its IVA on Friday and they are delivering it back to me on Thursday, relief! It seems they replaced the ECU, Exhaust and the Lambda sensor as well so I'm glad I dropped it back to them for fixing. The paperwork is in the post so now I'm hoping for a quick turnaround from the DVLA and I have some carbon fibre wing protectors, a high level brake light and the power socket to fit whilst I'm waiting. I also plan to do 1,000 miles and the oil change before we head to France in early June so if all goes to plan it should work out Regards Martin
  13. Great news about the reg document, hope you got a nice plate number. How many weeks did it take from IVA to getting your V5? I am waiting on Caterham about my emissions, hopefully should find out on Tuesday Martin
  14. Yes I have the same issue with the steering barrel, let me know the solution. Also has anyone seen their oil pressure when hot and idling, mine is well into the red zone, picks up ok when revving and the oil is full but slightly disturbing. I've done a lot of idling at hot whilst waiting for the emissions test, still no news from Crawley martin
  15. Paul was at a funeral today martin
  16. Be careful using a pillar drill, I used a lathe as the tolerances are quite tight. Quick update, my car failed it IVA re-test, another 150 miles and £90 lighter. Very fed up but now left the car with Caterham, it's their problem to fix and they will drop the car off when it is all done but our trip to France is almost certainly off, not happy Martin
  17. Hi Ned, yes I had the wrong bushes as well but in the end I got the one remaining bush turned down to the right dimension, a lot of faff, I think you will need to go back to Derek Martin
  18. My understanding is that as long as you have a booked test appointment then you can drive an unregistered car to and from the test centre. So Gillingham is a 80 mile trip for me, I've clocked up quite a few miles and will do so again for the re-test. My insurance company has confirmed I'm covered on the same basis Martin
  19. Hi Everyone, not good news unfortunately. It failed the emissions test! by a very small margin I might add and then there followed a list of other small items that also were not up to standard, even with a post build check. I have a plan to rectify this quickly and when this is complete I will be more explicit about what has happened, I'm still slightly shocked it failed on the emissions which is something I have no control over. Having said that I've done nearly 150 miles today and will do that again soon when I take it back for the re-test and the car is an absolute hoot to drive, noisy and windy on the motorway at 70mph but on the bends and accelerating through the gears it is an absolute blast Regards Martin
  20. Hi peter that's fantastic news, well done, just the DVLA to go now. I haven't got my car here so it's a bit difficult to understand what needs to be done. Can you post a picture and also feedback to Paul at caterham as hopefully both Simon and I can benefit from this feedback. Looking forward to seeing yours and Simons car thanks for the IVA wheel I will swap mine back after my test so the next person can use it Martin
  21. Hi Ned don't delay on the IVA forms it took Vosa the best part of 5 weeks to process my paperwork, booking the appointment took another 3 weeks and then the DVLA take 2 weeks but can be up to 6 and that assumes it passes first time so don't delay martin
  22. Hi Simon, I would love an expedition to Somerset once I'm road legal I need to get a 1,000 miles on the car so I can do a fluids change before we take it to France in June but it would be nice if we could get as many 160s together as possible, i will keep you all posted on my progress Martin
  23. Hi boys I was quoted 3 hours of work but I'm arguing that most of it is related to errors in the manual, including removing the fan washers and putting in the washers on the rear brake pipe where it goes through the bulkhead. Some things like tidying up the wiring I will have to swallow as I know it wasn't quite right. I'm taking mine myself to Gillingam on the 23rd of April it was the earliest date I could get! So mine is still in the balance. Caterham will fit the IVA wheel and then I will have to swap it for my old one! I will let you all know how the test goes. Then of course the DVLA have 6 weeks to get the V5 back so I can get some plates, but I'm hearing from Caterham that typically it takes 2 weeks so assuming it passes then I'm hoping for 2nd week of May Martin
  24. Hi Peter, I've just had my PBC check with Caterham and have had very similar things as you. I've decided to leave the car up at Crawley and let them do the bits it needs and then take the car directly to Gillingham for the test from there. So I'm sorry but I can't meet to collect the IVA wheel and it will need to go back to Crawley, sorry about that. Regards Martin
  25. Seems like I am using the IVA steering column as well after you Peter. It's getting handed around like some used newspaper so I have to fit it for the test and then put my old one back on after the test and return it to Caterham. Have you ever heard of such bureaucracy gone mad! Martin
