Steve Robinson
A little help please... 1600 supersport engine is turning over fine but not firing. Problem started yesterday when I started it out of the car, engine fired then stalled immediately and now won't start at all. It has fuel in it so where do I start checking next...(should add there is no immobiliser as it is a Roadsport A) Thanks Steve
Allen Payne
The inertia switch? Fuses? Can you hear the fuel pump running?
John Howe
Steve, when you say nothing is firing - have you had the plugs out and spun the engine to see if they are sparking. If they are not, then you should find them wet. If they are sparking and they are dry then the fuel is not getting through. Steve Robinson
John - I'll re-try but I think that 2 were wet and 2 were dry when I took them out Steve
Jason Plato
as above - can you hear the fuel pump priming ? do you have spark ? have you checked the inertia switch ?
shn7
Had similar problem when my car died on track last year. Taking a spark plug out shown a very intermittent or no spark when cranking. Check your crank position sensor. Mine had fallen out and was resting on the block . A couple of hours to diagnose and 5 minutes to fix. Steve. CB
here might help. Take a look about 2/3 the way down (or just search for crank sensor) Edited by - CB on 15 Apr 2006 08:28:
Allen Payne
The crank sensor is at the back n the engine, on the drivers side, down below the inlet manifold and in bolted up against the engine block (facing backwards) - It's small and likely black. Dirty Den
should add there is no immobiliser as it is a Roadsport A The inertia switch I have a RoadSport A as well - it does have an immobiliser but no inertia switch. The immobiliser will allow the engine to turn over but not fire. Den http://www.dens7.co.uk
Steve Robinson
Now soretd (partially) thanks to the nice man from the AA He traced the fault to an earth issue between the coil and the ECU which he thinks is caused by my ECU playing up. It is now starting OK, but his feeling is that there could be an underlying problem in the ECU. Does this sound feasible? Steve
