David Brown
Out for a drive today and the temperature guage flickered up and down a few times and then died. How can I confirm with a multimeter that it is the sender that is broken - as per numerous postings. Intend to clean up contacts and test for continuity as first steps. mav
Take the wire off the sender, and short it to earth. This should give full deflection of the needle on the guage. If this does happen then it is a sender issue.
shn7
Mav's correct. History also says that 99:1 it's the sender. Steve.
David Brown
Thanks Mav, Steve for prompt response. Will try it in the morning and then phone CC.
Chris W
Mav's correct in his fault finding suggestion, but just to be complete, you must do this test (ie: shorting the sender lead to earth) with the ignition ON. Otherwise you will never get a deflection. Chris 2003 1.8K SV 140hp see it here
David Brown
I appear to be 1 in 100. No deflection, cleaned contacts, working again! Thanks for your help anyway.
Bricol
It'll do it again tomorrow - it's following the pattern! I stuck a crossflow one in - reliably reads 120 degrees at normal . . . with space to spare if it wants to show higher. I will find a cheap replacement that gives the right reading one day!
