Track Day Alterations

I'm up at Castle Coombe tomorrow and have 2 questions

1) I'm taking off the current eight spokes with Avon CR500s as they're not that old and replacing with my spare minilites fitted with worn Yokohamas (a021r's from memory) as this is the first trackday with the seven what's the advice on tyre pressures, i've heard it's best to put 2-6 extra PSi in

2) With the car running aand warm i've also been told that a drop more oil wouln't be a bad idea as i'm not dry sumped and it will limit surge a bit is this bollox?

I run CR500s on track depending upon temperature between 16 to 20 psi

Fill your oil up to the top mark and not beyond. Overfilling puts undue straess on the engine and can cause windage problems. Not a good idea.

Enjoy your day and keep it shinny side up!

Your 21's will probably need a little higher pressure than that, as they are higher profile than the CR500's. Check the pressure when it is warm and even the pressures off then.

A little extra oil is sensible.

Don't overfill the petrol tank - you don't want a load of fuel at the back.

you would usually reduce tyre pressure for track use *confused*

the tyre will work harder, and hotter on track than they do on the road

the tyre will work best at optimum pressure (usually about 22psi)

therefore, at cold, reduce the tyre pressure to 16-18psi and this will increase to 22psi after the track session

check when back in the paddock and correct accordingly (should be even pressure all round, and raise or lower depending on the feel)

I would not 'over fill' the oil, but check during the day
