Gary G
I haven't used my 7 for quite a few weeks, so thought I'd try to build up some oil pressure before firing the engine. Removed the HT leads and turned it over for a good few seconds, but oil pressure gauge did not move. Am I missing something?
Slipper man
It probably isn't turning over fast enough. if you take out the plus you will probably find the oil pressure registers.
Strangely
When we first turned over my new K with the plugs out it took over 30 seconds of non-stop cranking before the pressure gauge budged. Did you hold on for long enough?
Rob Walker
Gary, disconnect the inertia switch on the bulkhead or you will be spraying fuel into the engine as you crank.
Gary G
I cranked it for about 15 seconds in total, so from the sounds of it, that's not enough. Rob, where abouts is the inertia switch and what does it look like?
Jason Plato
The inertia switch is on the engine side of the bulk head just above the ecu - just unplug it . An alternative is to *not* to turn the imobiliser off . If you have an appollo then the oil pressure usually takes ages to build on start up
Gary G
Dave, I have an apollo, so i guess that's another reason why it didn't work too well. I'll try the immobiliser trick next time - saves messing around under the bonnet!
CHRIS CLARK
Gary G. Apollos can be a problem for that as it drains back into the sump. I (and now others) have used a non return flap valve on the oil return pipe to the cam box whic stops this and means from any start up you get instant oil pressure shown on the gauge. I used to find there was a couple of seconds delay otherwise.
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted March 8, 2004 Leadership Team Share Posted March 8, 2004 Wire in a "big red starter button" such that you can turn the engine over without the ignition live. Works a treat for doing compression tests also. Stu.
