Paul Thompson
How do you persuade the roller bearing back on to the half shaft ? Also does anyone know the oil seal part number
Eccles
From what I recall (11 years ago), it should be possible to gently drift the the bearings back into place with a suitable length of tube (diameter to fit the inner part of the bearing) and a hide hammer. Unfortunately I have no idea of the part number for the oil seal
tomroche
When I did this, I drifted the bearing on with a (very) large hammer and some scaffold tube, using loctite to hold it in place. Dont drift in on TOO far or its a bitch to get back.......
Gun Bunny
The last seal I fitted was a PAYEN NA203. I used the same method of fitting the bearing as Tom, just make sure you dont drift it on to far.
Paul Thompson
Thanks for that but how do you know when you when the bearing is in the right spot ?
R2D2
The location of the bearing is quite imporrtant as it fits onto a taper and the axial position determines the "fit". The best way to find the position is to check in an Ital service manual. The information is also in the Marina service manual but only the Imperial value is correct. The metric value has been incorrectly converted and if you used this position the bearing would be loose. The Triumph Toledo and TR7 4 speed manuals have the position in metric units stated correctly. Sorry but I don't have a record of the numbers which on reflection is a bit daft having checked quite extensively 3-4 years ago.
elie boone
Chris, If the axle is the same as the TR7/ toledo so it surely must be the same as a Dolomite, for the last one i have a manual
R2D2
Elie, I am sure you are right. The RWD Dolomites have the same axle except for the Sprint.
Gun Bunny
The Haynes manual for the Ital gives a final position from the threaded end of 2.84 inches (72.14mm). The manual for the Marina gives it as 2.84 inches (69.94mm)
