jody391
When I purchased tyres for the Elise it was quite easy to find the tyres size required. Where do people use for there tyres for the Caterham? 185/50/13 215/55/13 Jody.
7 wonders of the world
Fronts are 55 series too possibly a typo. Since Avon may have supply issues have you considered R888R in 185/60/13 and 205/60/13 this gives more static rake so you will need to make adjustments. Toyo also offer R888r's in a wider rear in lower profile to pretty much mirror the rolling circumference of the front. 225/45/
7 wonders of the world
Forgot to mention the fronts taller profile affords a little more ground clearance which your sump will thank you for...
aerobod - near CYYC
Hi Jody, If you are looking for grippy dry road orientated tyres, the Nankang AR-1s have worked very well for me. they are available in 185/60-13 for a front 13x6 wheel and 235/45-13 for a rear 13x8 wheel.
PaulRainsford
I have staggered r888r’s (185 fronts and 205 rears) fitted to my Superlight R, prior to that Avons. Really pleased with the Toyo’s. I think the 185’s in the toyos are slightly wider than the Avons as they contact the wing stay which then needs bending a little to create some clearance. Wondering if the nangkang’s are slightly narrower to avoid this needing to be done?
StevehS3
I have used R888R and would be happy to return to using them when my ZZS are worn. I noticed Yoko A052 for sale by Northampton Motorsport in suitable sizes. Can anyone advise on how they compare against ZZS or R888R? https://www.northamptonmotorsport.com/product-category/yokohama-tyres-northampon-motorsport/yokohama-advan-a052-tyres/

Both Toyo and Nankang quote the section width at 189mm in 185/60-13 size, but it may depend on the rim width the tyre is fitted to. My wing stays are also setup for 195/45-15 tyres, so I may have a bit more clearance with the AR-1s due to that.
jody391
Yeah I have a set of wheels which have r 888's they are 185/60/13 and the rears are 225/45/13, and they are great. I have ran R888's (the old tyre on the Elise) and they were great also, the Ad08r's however on the Elise were ok for road but I hated them on track! Doing some research the optimum tyre setup would be: But I don't believe the rear tyre sizes of 225/50/13 to be available. And the next best really would be this: This is the R888r setup: And you can get ZZR's in this size: We used to run 195/50/15's on the Elise on a 5.5j rim and they were ok. I have a square set of 6j wheels on the A539's which seem great but the 6j all round compared to the 8j rear just feels so floaty! have people found 195's of on the front? Jody.
