graearea
I have adjustable platform standard shocks which I think are 170lb. I found some on ebay that were 250lb caterham race springs but they are much bigger diameter (they mentioned a 2.25” ID which I'd measured and mistook for OD...) what do I need to buy? are there adaptors? or replacement platforms? https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/196060522950 cheers! Area Representative Richard Price Posted December 1, 2023 Area Representative Share Posted December 1, 2023 You need these for the top. https://caterhamparts.co.uk/dampers/592-upper-spring-retainer-225-used-with-dssu01k.html?search_query=spring+seat&results=152 the the pair of adjustable collars normally come as a pair, one to suit 1.9" ID springs, the other to suit 2.25" springs.
graearea
awesome. thanks Richard. I knew there'd be something like that, that my google-fu was failing. I guess I need the same for the rears as well. anyone know if they're available without the caterham tax?

Area Representative manningpaul Posted December 3, 2023 Area Representative Share Posted December 3, 2023 Hi John, I have used Protech Shocks in the past, based in Melksham, so local to me, and found them very helpful on spring rates etc. Might be worth a call? 01225 705553.
graearea
https://www.protechshocks.co.uk/collet-1-9-2-25-id-spring/ I wonder if that would work. I'll give them a call. thanks paul
Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted December 3, 2023 Area Representative Share Posted December 3, 2023 (edited) Protech were great when I replaced the worn out Bilstein dampers on my Crossflow. I also forgot that the rear sring diameter was different to the front and they swopped the parts without any issue at all. That adjustable platforms are built in made me wonder why on earth Bilstein don't do that obvious thing. I think you shouldn't have to spend extra money for adjustability. Area Representative Richard Price Posted December 3, 2023 Area Representative Share Posted December 3, 2023 Mount the damper the other way round, putting the end in your photograph at the lower wishbone. (there is a small advantage of reducing unsprung mass that way too)
7 wonders of the world
only mono tubes should be inverted, you risk inducing cavitation on twin tubes
graearea
I printed off some platform mockups to see if they'd fit and it looks like they will. I'll order some from protect and see
graearea
well.. it's gonna be cheaper to just buy new 1.9" springs! https://dfaulknersprings.com/product-category/standard-springs/1-9-inch-id-standard-springs/
