Area Representative Nico506 Posted June 13, 2023 Area Representative Share Posted June 13, 2023 Hi all I have a pair of what look like Avo adjustable shock absorbers fitted to my Caterham , on my live axle crossflow caterham and just seem some replacement units from AVO on the Merlin Motorsport website , and can i reuse the springs on the new shocks as I don't know what the spring rates are. The car was built circa 1998 and used for hill climbs and racing in its early days . Can any one advise on type of units required - i intend to us the car for mostly fast rood and little track use. Thanks in advance for help and information
7 wonders of the world
assuming the damper bodies are the same dimensions and the springs are serviceable then yesRate and length is usually visible with the spring removed it is engraved in the powder coat on one end of the spring that sits on the collarsIf not spring can be obtained for sensible money from Faulkners here:https://dfaulknersprings.com/
Wrightpayne
I looked at Nick's car at the club meet last week and the front suspension is the classic type with trunions and the additional wishbone attached onto the cast iron top link. The springs have lots of coils with not much gap between them - I've seen them like this on other cars of the era. The front shocks have adjusters on them. Nick said the rears were the original bilsteins.
