ChrisChurch
Hi, I'm new! Sorry if this is a silly question or it's been done before.I have purchased a new gear knob for my type 9 box, 3/8" thread. When I went to fit it (I ordered it while away and didn't check) and I have an adapter screwed on top for the current plastic knob.I need to remove this but there's nothing to get a grip of. I thought maybe put two nuts locked together on the adapter and use a spanner to undo it but don't know what size but it's a very course thread. And griping the gear stick itself is a bit dubious too. It seems to be stuck fast, I've used penetrating fluid but hasn't made any difference. Has anyone had any experience of this, any ideas welcome! Thanks folks.
Member Jonathan Kay Posted December 31, 2022 Member Share Posted December 31, 2022 Are there any little grub screws?Jonathan
ChrisChurch
I was hoping so but alas no. I've got the gearstick off and it's on the bench. It would be sensible if there were flats in the shaft for a spanner but it's all round.Frustrating! Member Jonathan Kay Posted December 31, 2022 Member Share Posted December 31, 2022 Thanks.Upper bit: self-grip wench, or two nuts as you suggest. Lower bit: self-grip wench Assistance: soak in penetrating oil, as already done, NOT ordinary WD-40, and if that doesn't work then local heat on the female end of the adaptor. Then tonk with a mallet and confidence that it will work this time!Jonathan
