Trackday Helmets

Hi,

We are about to go on our first Trackday at Blyton in a few weeks.

I am considering buying a helmet, any advice as on type/style/price would be very welcome.

Not going to be much help but Bedford insisted on full face helmets in open top cars.

That's pretty much all MSV circuits, but I don't know what the policy at Blyton is.

I bought a Bell Sport 5 as my first trackday helmet.

Bell aren't the cheapest brand, but they're very comfortable.

I think it's recently been replaced by the GT5 Sport...

I think I tried some on at Merlin Motorsport but ended up ordering from Advantage Motorsport. Either way they're widely stocked so you should be able to find somewhere to try before you buy.

AFAIK Goodwood, Anglesey, MSV, MSE all insist on full face in open top cars.

Price = as much as you can afford but whatever you buy try it on first. Every ones head is different and there is nothing worse than driving with an ill fitting uncomfortable helmet on, even for 20 minutes.

Every track I've driven at (Castle Combe, Goodwood, Brands Hatch, Silverstone) with either C&L7C or LOT has required a full face helmet in an open top car.

Definitely full face for club track days in an open top car. Provided it is full face, with visor fitted, the tracks I've been to will be happy, they don't inspect the helmets. As the advice above, just make sure it's comfortable.

Full face helmet would be best.

I have used motorcycle helmets on track with no complaints. Sparco and OMP sell trackday helmets (i.e. non FIA race helmets) too if you prefer those.

However, as the others have said, very important to try them on and go for the best you can afford.

I apparently have an Arai head so at all the shops I visited and friends I spoke to, told me to stick with Arai lids.
