  1. Have you found an elegant way to stop the irritating buzz from the wiper mechanism ?
  2. In the spirit of the season - Oh yes you can...
  3. Hi, We are about to go on our first Trackday at Blyton in a few weeks. I am considering buying a helmet, any advice as on type/style/price would be very welcome. Regards P
  4. Hi, Any offers on who was driving a red Caterham with stripes past Brigg garden centre heading towards Brigg this afternoon - 25th June.
  5. It is black and branded by Caterham.
  6. Oh yes. I hope the neighbours could not hear... P
  7. I tried to push the pliers with a bit of tube slipped over the handles but could not get enough leverage so had to abandon that method. I jacked up the front end and put it onto axle stands, got underneath, braced my feet against the front suspension and pulled with all my might. It slowly turned and after a few revolutions it freed up. The new filter span on as easily as you would expect. P
  8. UPDATE. I bought a set of Halfords Oil Filter Pliers, ate a lot of Weetabix and only just managed it. It took all my strength and weight to undo it, the force was not required just to break the seal, it took lots of force for the first few turns. Stupidly tight. But done.
  9. I have (had) a band type filter remover. It has provided years, probably decades of service but I have bent it trying to remove the filter in question. This type of tool seems to get good reviews and I can get one in the morning, unless somebody on here knows better.... 10. Hi, I am mid way through the first oil change on my newly built Caterham 420. I have been changing oil filters on cars for nearly 40 yrs without any significant issues but removing the oil filter is proving to be beyond the conventional tools that I have. The filter just will not budge. Presumably it was installed in the factory without lubricating the seal and has simply stuck on. Any bright ideas of the best tool or tips to remove it would be very much appreciated. I suppose I am off shopping in the morning.... TIA Regards P
  11. Having read all the comments ( thanks to those that replied) I have concluded that the oil changes during the warranty period will be using Caterham approved suppliers, this means paying over the odds for Motul Oil, and actual Caterham Branded Filters. In the unlikely event that I have an issue with the Engine then Caterham will have no wiggle room as I will have followed their recommendations to the letter. Thanks again P
  12. Hi I have also sent a PM hoping to get a set of these. Pretty please.... Thanks P.
  13. If my experience is anything to go by, it needs a good dose of swearing to fit and remove the cable from the caliper.
  14. Jonathan, Thanks for that, I have had a rummage though the archives and have concluded that the original grade of 5W50 is the way to go for me - when I finally get on track I can't imagine that I am going to generate real heat ( I have chosen my username for a reason....) The question revolves around the quality of the oil rather than the grade. I assume that they are similar and I am hoping that one of our more learned members can either confirm or deny that. I am always keen on a bargain but I really don't want to spoil the ship for a hap'orth of tar. Ta P
  15. Hi, I am about to order oil for my 420r first oil change. The oil supplied by Caterham for the build was a Motul 5W50 fully synthetic. Opie Oils have 5L of this exact fully synthetic oil for £56.95 they also have Comma 5W50 fully synthetic oil for £37.50. There is a 15% Easter discount at present that would be applied to the prices above so I want to order enough for a few oil changes. I seem to remember reading that Caterham have supplied Comma oils in the past. Do we know any good technical reason why they changed from Comma to Motul - or was it merely a commercial swap based on price? Any advice would be much appreciated. P
  16. Ah, that makes sense, next time I am playing about with it I will see if I can measure the sustained movement torque. Thanks P
  17. Hi, I have just got my self-built 420r on the road and as expected the LSD is noisy - clattery when not on the throttle and a bit of a whine at speed. It has done about 150 miles and I have just performed the LSD load check as specified on this site and have got a reading of about 55 ft lbs before it breaks away. This is a good bit more than the 40 ft lbs stated on the guide to be satisfactory, is this a case of the more the merrier or can you have too high a reading ? TIA P.
  18. According to their website its drive by and the device is 20m from the edge of the track at a defined location. Presumably, easing off as you get close will help. P
  19. Presumably the cat is behind the silencer under the car ? Or have you been a very naughty boy.....
  20. My kit was delivered in September 2021. It has the side exit exhaust. The cat is mounted immediately after the point where the four pipes come together. The silencer is fitted almost immediately after the cat.
  21. Stevehs3 That is very much the correct answer ! Thanks. P
  22. Richard, On Blyton Parks website they say that the noise meter is 20m from the track close to the start line on the exit of Twickers corner. I assume that the IVA noise test is done at much closer range than 20m so if you can pass IVA then you should be able to pass the noise test at Blyton. I suppose there is only one way to find out...... Mine is Hyper (Kowasaki) green. I'll see you there. Bet I'm slowest !! Patrick
  23. Oh dear. Mine is a 210bhp, side exhaust. How big a deal to fit a rear exhaust and where do I get the bits from ? I have had a trawl through the Caterham website and nothing leaps out.... As a complete new boy I am not exactly going to be going quickly - presumably this will help ?
  24. Hi, I am a very new boy who is nearing completion of a 420r build. I have just booked the novices trackday at Blyton Park this coming September but have just realised that "the day is subject to a 95 db(A) drive by noise limit" As a complete beginner I have no idea if my lovely new car is going to get kicked off the circuit after its first lap. Could somebody please give some guidance ? Thanks Patrick
