revilla
Personally I would leave the gear box in place, suitably supported at the front (I sling a ratchet strap around the chassis members and under bellhousing, that allows you to move the car, e.g. to roll it out from under the engine hanging in and engine crane where space is limited).Othe people however do it the other way. pgm
I would definitely leave the gearbox in place!
Area Representative Nick Chan Posted August 20, 2022 Area Representative Share Posted August 20, 2022 I use to lift the pair together but now find just lifting the engine is much easier esp if I am working alone.Pop a small Jack under the bell housing to take the weight when it comes out or reduces the angle when putting the engine back in and I find this much easierNick
PG Tips
Thanks guys, taken your advice and left the box in place. Apart from was a pig to split the box from the engine the rest was a nice little job.Work for tomorrow, fit the clutch and engine back in. Many thanks all :)
ECR
Once you have removed all the bell housing bolts and freed the engine from the chassis, if you depress the clutch pedal that usually frees the engine from the box...try it next time .... 7 wonders of the world
Go easy if your running with a CSC though as you run the risk of over extending the unit an discharging the piston.
