Dan R
My entry for the most bizarre question is as follows - Does anyone know what size plug (Diameter and thread) is used for the drain on the triangular dry sump tanks that are situated just under the nosecone of a Duratec R500, and most likely the R400, CSR and others! Mine is a 2012 car and id like to get a magnetic plug prior to the oil change but need the thread size etc! I'll wait in anticipation for someone with enviable knowledge to come along and help! Wrightpayne
No such thing as a stupid question. We all like a technical challenge!
aerobod - near CYYC
I believe it is M10x1.25, but won't be absolutely sure until I do my oil change on the Easter long weekend when the car goes back on the road. You have to be very careful to not over torque that drain plug though, as it is a fairly short thread into the bottom of the tank. 15Nm and a new copper crush washer each time, for me. aerobod - near CYYC
Hi Dan, I was assuming the drain plug was metric, but it is a really weird imperial size, 3/8"-28 (so 28 TPI), finer than a normal UNF 3/8"-24. Here is a photo against a ruler:
