Speed sensor for 6 speed gearbox

Helping a friend with a rebuild.  Does anyone know if the Ford speed sensor (sold by Burton) fits the 6 speed gearbox?  (Before anyone suggests it, yes, we've asked Burton ... vague answer wasn't confidence-inspiring.)  Thanks

With the 6 speeder the holes for the mechanical sensor are usually blanked off as speed input comes from the electronic sensor just in front of the off side rear wheel.

It is not beyond reason that you could fit the mechanical system to the box as the holes are available.

I am sure someone will be along presently to verify that.

My 6 speed (1997 car) had a mechanical drive, but it was really badly worn and weeping, so I moved to a new speedo with a hall sensor picking up from the back of the front hub (speedo was also quite a way out, while the electronic speedo can be very accurately set).

Do you mean this one?  If so, I'd say yes, given that it connects using p/n REVT9-A, which looks identical to the CC brass top-hat. for the 5sp and 6sp Ford boxes

My old 1999 1.8K SS-R had the 6sp with the mechanical angle drive hooked up to a cable-driven speedo.

To the OP:  How old is the car under rebuild?  What speedo does it have?

This is the speed sensor from Caterham that fits into the side of the 6sp gearbox, it's a two wire connection whereas the Burton equivalent is three.

Caterham appear to be out of stock but Redline will likely have them.

Good point about the wiring.  Burton states: yellow/brown - pickup; brown -ve; brown/black +ve. 8 pulses per revolution.

Presumably the CC item earths through the mounting?  Is the pulse/rev rate the same?

The Burton speed sensor works with the 6 speed boxes, be aware that you need to buy the brass base as well as the sensor its a different thread to the caterham one.  If you go the toothed wheel route you will also need to change your speedo to the later type.

The car was registered in November 2003.  It's got a 6 speed box with straight rather than angled electronic speedo drive.  The speedo is analogue MPH with a digital odometer and says 'Caterham' on it:

Re #9:

That speedo looks like the version that you program via dipswiches.  According to this thread, the Burton and CC senders both generate 8 pulses/rev, so no reprogramming is needed.
