Sigma Engine Oil Change

Planning on doing my first oil and filter change and I have a quick question regarding the sigma engine, as the sump drain plug is on the side of the sump (not underneath), is it better to use an oil extraction pump to get all the oil out or will most of the oil drain out just from the plug being removed?

I just did it for the first time on my 310R last weekend and it drained really freely, I couldn't really suck any more out than had already gone by gravity. My major piece of advice is that if you are going to remove the filter whilst also draining the sump, make sure you have a drain tray wider than mine.....or more blue paper roll than I had to mop up!!

Must admit I've used an extractor for the past eight years. No mess, for the first couple of times I took the plug out at the end and there was only a tiny trickle. Have now put the temp sensor into the sump plug and no longer disturb it
