StevehS3
Hi all, got it loose and the cables disconnected but can't see how to get it out without removing the exhaust manifold/primaries and possibly the engine mounting bracket. Car is S3 with std exhaust, Apollo tank and metric chassis (if that makes a difference). Am I missing something or is it that difficult!
revilla
On an SV there's enough room to drop it out. I've a feeling that on an S3 it is as you say!
Area Representative Piers300 Posted May 16, 2021 Area Representative Share Posted May 16, 2021 Yes, it’s not easy to do. It is some time since I had to do mine and I am sure I had to remove the exhaust pipes.I never considered undoing the engine mount and lifting the engine. That would be a better bet to start with, as I recall that it needed just a bit more space. Good luck.
StevehS3
Thanks each. If I manage to resist polishing the exhaust manifold whilst it's out that will speed the job up :)
StevehS3
It's out!For future reference - I had to remove the exhaust manifold as stated above. I also needed to remove the lambda sensor from the manifold and lift the engine a cm or so to get it off the studs and out of the engine bay. The alternator then would pass rearward and down through the chassis tubes.
Colin Heseltine
Steve,Glad you have managed to get it out. After the weekend I think you should just give in and get 420R SV with Tillets. Lots of space round engine then. You looked at home in mine.Colin
StevehS3
Colin, I must admit I felt immediately at home in it - but I would need a test drive to confirm :-)
Colin Heseltine
Steve,I bought it never having driven a 420R or an SV. I had sat in Richards CSR with leather seats and his mates 420R SV fitted with tillets. So just bit the bullet and kept fingers crossed.Colin
