Replacing a sigma with a Duratec engine

About all that's left of my SV 175 (360 to you) is the drivetrain and I expect it to be written off by the insurer. I have an opportunity to buy a new SV 275 ( we use EU cars herein OZ.). I am trying to find out if it is possible/ difficult to swap engines or engine and transmission into the new car. Hence the Subject above - replacing a Sigma with a Duratec. 
I assume obvious stuff like engine mounts would not be difficult but am trying to see if it is crazy to even consider it. 
if I can get some guidance it would be much appreciated.  I have an excellent mechanic who can do it all but is unfamiliar with the cars involved so I need Somewhere to start.

A lot will depend on the chassis age and power train combination, for example a Mazda derived gearbox won't fit is a chassis which is not designed for that gearbox, but a Type-9 (or 6 speed) will fit in either.    The chassis engine mount locations should be the same, obviously the engine mounts will be different.   The exhaust hole may be different, so you may need a side skin (or custom exhaust / headers), the problem is that's dependent on the EU spec, something I am not that familiar with.   It's the EU spec changes that really throws the spanner into the works, I would be more confident if the cars where UK spec.

I considered something similar a few years ago and the response from everyone, including Caterham themselves when I asked about a potential parts list and an optimistic Caterham specialist was "DON'T!"

If you have a Sigma 7 and want a Duratec 7, sell the former and buy the latter...  I know that might be easier said than done for you!

The numbers involved will be considerable...  I suspect that if you have the bunce and the time and the enthusiasm then you could go for an Ecoboost...  I doubt it'd cost any/much more than a Duratec to install and will give you the potential for much more power.

#6 except he already has a Duratec and all its ancillaries. Why would he buy an Ecoboost? 

In any case has anybody persevered with the Ecoboost? I know CC and several others have built those cars, at great expense, but I’m not aware of anyone actually offering the Ecoboost as a car or conversion.

Westfield seem to have adopted the ecoboost, and I know others who have converted, but I really wouldn't want to choose one of those over a duratec or even normally aspirated sigma. They are quick but throttle response has to be worse, and the torque characteristics make driving in the wet tricky to say the least.

Are you able to get the whole written off car? If so I don't see how this wouldn't be feasible. I get that the conversion is expensive if you have to buy all the ancillary parts to upgrade a Sigma car to the Duratec, but surely in this case you would have all those from the wrecked car?

That is exactly what I though, I investigated it using new parts and it was doable but uneconomic, however if you have a complete written off car it would be a interesting and fun project and feasible.

I also would have thought both being SV would help, my investigations were with S3 chassis. The only problem thing I I would have though is the gearbox as ChrisC mentioned better that they are both either Mazda or type 9.
