Member Jonathan Kay Posted May 9, 2019 Member Share Posted May 9, 2019 My first experience of getting an MOT for a Caterham is coming up.Have you found the advice on preparation? In addition to the usual for any vehicle:Handbrake cable adjustment.Recently applied brakes.Hot catalyst.Understanding which emissions test is appropriate. And I have my propshaft UJs greased while it's up on their ramp.Jonathan
Guyzor
Thanks Jonathan.I've been reading up on your last point at least. It is kit-built, according to the VIN, but registered 2015, so my understanding is that unfortunately it wouldn't get away with just a smoke test. Thanks,Guy
Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted May 9, 2019 Area Representative Share Posted May 9, 2019 GuyI suggest you contact your local AO (Brian) and ask him. Otherwise ask at the local meeting because the existing owners will have been through this.https://www.lotus7.club/area-meetings/bristol-and-bath

Viblue7
I was asked for my VIN Code so that the tester knew the engine variant in my car when doing the emissions test If you need it you can find the detail in DVSA Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency In Service Exhaust Emission Standards for Road Vehicles Nineteenth EditionAll my car needed was a rear light bulb that tester replaced FOC
Guyzor
Cheers. I've left it a bit late to squeeze in a meet before the date of the MOT. It's crept up on me!

Bristol and Bath AR
A lot of the Bristol and Bath guys go to Harbour Garage in Portishead (I can personally recommend them to). They are very familiar with Caterhams and will MoT correctly for this type of car.Harbour Rd, Portishead, Bristol BS20 7BL 01275 845000Brian
