CageyH
I am struggling to find somewhere to buy some fully synthetic 10w50 at a sensible price, and I need to change my oil soon. Would 10W60 be a sensible option for a mostly standard VHPD engine for fast road use?
Paul Mason
I use comma Motorsport 5w50 and bought from Amazon at between 22 and about 26 quid delivered for 5ltrs. rj
Kevin,You can probably find Total Quartz 10w50 on ebay.frIt's what I've been using for more than a decada albeit ELF branded, but no longer available
Paul Mason
Bugger, that's pricey. Though I always tell myself and oil and filter, even of pricey, is cheaper than the potential alternative. Apols hadn't realised you were from foreign shores
CageyH
Thanks RJ. Just over €63 for 10 litres delivered from racinglubes.frThere seems to be less and less choice these days.

rj
You're right Kevin. Less and less choices. The "heavy" stuff is getting rare now where engines use water-thin oil for lubication. I have wondered if I should orde a 200l drum to make sure I had for a while - I ended up "just" purchasing 20x5L though.
CageyH
Mobil still do a 5W50, but suitable oils are going to get more expensive for sure.
Leadership Team SLR No.77 Posted April 17, 2019 Leadership Team Share Posted April 17, 2019 This all seems a far cry from 20 years ago, going to the Le Mans 24 hour race and buying Mobil 1 Motorsport in the local supermarché to bring home because it was cheaper than in the UK!Stu. aerobod - near CYYC
BMW sell 10w60 oil for S54 engined cars such as the E46 M3 and E85 Z4M, should be available at any BMW parts department.
CageyH
The issue is that the main Automotive centres no longer stock the more specialist grades. 5W30 etc. is no problem. The 10W50 I bought is not very expensive for a fully synthetic oil.
mike150
Millers do all weights and are the best oil for motorsport in my opinion. I have 10l of 10W60 sitting ready for my next oil change in my 620S.Castrol are the supplier of 10W60 to BMW for the S54 Engine in the V8 M3
