jpath8
The coolant temp gauge on my HPC is not reading correctly. The gauge is reading about 70C but the infrared pyrometer indicates 90C. I'm trying to figure out how to trouble shoot to find out if it is the gauge or sender, so does anyone know what the range values should be for the sender and VDO temp gauge. The temp senders are cheap so I do not mind replacing, but not sure of the cross reference for the part. Is it just the standard temp sender off a Vauxhall calibra? SM25T
Usually the sender that fails. If it is a 1-wire sender that is earthed by screwing it on to the engine like the Rover setup ... you can test the gauge and wiring by unplugging the connector and touching it on to the engine to ground it with the ignition on. Gauge should go to full scale.
SM25T
Ask Chris at Redline about the sender. 01883 346515.
ECR
I have the following in my notes ...... Air temperature sender (in air filter backplate; Lucas SNB801 Water temperature sender for ECU(by thermostat); Lucas SNB802
SM25T
Roger .... does the ECU feed the gauge, or is there a dedicated sender for the gauge ?
ECR
There are 2 temperature senders One feeds the ECU and the other feeds the gauge. The sender for the gauge is dependent on which model of gauge is fitted (obviously ....)
SM25T
I only mentioned it as the OP is looking at gauge temperature.
ECR
Yes, quite right Ian ...Sender for water temperature gauge (VDO gauge only, NOT the Caterham branded Caerbont gauge) is Caterham part No 323801005001 and is stamped VDO 9.06 6-24V 120C 801/5/
