Scatter shield removal

My car had a rather robust scatter shield installed either when it was built or shortly thereafter.

I'm strongly considering removing it at the moment as it serves no purpose on a street car.  Only the tops of the tabs are welded so it should be an easy job to remove it and then clean and paint the frame tubes.

Is there some reason to not get rid of this thing?  Is there something I'm missing?  I guess one could argue that it's part of the car's history but I'm not sure that holds much weight with me.

That looks completely non standard. Never seen anything like that on a seven.

If it were my car I’d remove it and carefully remove the bits welded to the engine bay diagonals and linish back followed by satin black paint.

Re safety enhancements, I’d rather beef up the transmission tunnel as a flailing snapped prop can cause a lot of damage & injury!
