Help needed fitting a Petty Strut

CharlieC

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone. I have bought a petty strut in order to take part in my first Speed event next weekend at Curborough and I am looking for help in fitting it. I am based in Kingston (SW London). Is there anyone nearby(ish) who is willing to give me the benefit of their experience or can guide me to a useful guide/resource?

Many thanks in advance,

Charlie

Which part are you having trouble with Charlie.

I'm not able to pop over but have recently fitted on to my S3. The biggest challenge was the front fitting where I needed to loosen the top of the passenger side panel by drilling out the six top rivets and ease ot the panel so you can locate the mounting thread which is welded on the chassis side members. It can be found in the passenger side of the cockpit approximately one inch below the point at which the dashboard tube is welded to the top of the chassis rail. You'll then have to slowly make a hole in the panel ensuring it lines up with the mounting thread. Do not over drill this as you need just enough to get the 7/16" stud to fit (it may be a different size on a metric chassis). Buy a cheap hole plug to cover hole when not using the petty strut

I may have some pictures somewhere but PM if you want to talk it through
