Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted May 26, 2017 Area Representative Share Posted May 26, 2017 It's on a Crossflow, so you expect it to move down a lot!Having driven into London (I crossed my fingers as I was already well on my way and I sirt-of renembered filling up on the return journey last time out), despite the hard to clockwise position I filled up, putting in 25 litres. Am I looking fir a lost connection or a shorted one or something else?
elie boone
Did you try to put the sender wire to ground, if so will the needle move ?
SM25T
Shorted to earth normally equates to FSD. Look for squashed wire.
Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted May 26, 2017 Author Area Representative Share Posted May 26, 2017 Thank you both.Elie, yet to try anything, I thought I should know what to look for. I'll be searching for the squashed/worn wiring tomorrow.
OliverSedlacek
The fuel gauge works the other way round on an XFlow seven. Full scale corresponds to maximum sender resistance so you've probably got an open circuit.
Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted May 29, 2017 Author Area Representative Share Posted May 29, 2017 OK. Thanks Oliver.I had looked for a short under the dash, it all seemed ok.But I didn't see anything loose, failing to make a connection. Another look during the week. Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted September 25, 2017 Author Area Representative Share Posted September 25, 2017 Sorry, I should have reported back on this. Park the Seven nose-up-hill - fuel gauge sticks on full deflection.Park the Seven nose down-hill, operation normal.Operation normal if parked on level ground, too.So I assume the float sticks. Area Representative Golf Juliet Tango Posted June 12, 2018 Author Area Representative Share Posted June 12, 2018 Resolution: the float was mounted incorrectly. As many of you will know, it is fixed with six machine screws and was one position off. Remount by 60 degrees, and it works. Quite how it had worked for years but then gave up is utterly beyond me.
