Paul Deslandes
Can anyone recommend a readily available hi temp exhaust sealant. This is for a non 7 classic car with cast iron manifold and stainless pipes. The seals don't seat well enough to seal properly as the manifold interface is pitted.I have some Hondabond HT which is a bit too runny and wondered about intumescent flue sealant. There's no cat or lambda sensor to worry about.I've tried the archives but the links don't work.ThanksPaul

Area Representative Nick Bassett Posted February 15, 2017 Area Representative Share Posted February 15, 2017 I have used Loctite RTV 5990 on my exhaust manifold gasket - good stuff and also used by DVA too :-)http://www.halfords.com/workshop-tools/garage-equipment/head-gasket-exhaust-repairs/loctite-5990-premium-silicone-copper-gasket-maker-sealant
Delbert
do not use an intumescant as when it get sto 170 degrees it will expand beyound belief That is why it is used around pipe pentrations in fire walls
Paul Deslandes
Thanks for all the replies. Off to Halfrauds for some 5990 as it's readily available.Didn't know that about intumescent - glad I asked!I'll try that search method in future JK. Pity that it's not built into Blatchat search.Paul
