RyCliff
After any length of drive in the car, no matter how slowly I make my way up our ever so slightly uphill drive, I get a pendulum swinging noise from the rear of the car for around 30-45 seconds. Also noticed this at petrol stations too. Could anyone advise if this is normal? I've been under the car recently to look at the diff but there was nothing obvious there. SM25T
Leave ignition on and see if fuel gauge follows the noise ?
shn7
Fuel gaage reading is so heavily damped I don't think you'd notice the needle moving but fuel in the tank was my first thought.
Paul Deslandes
exhaust cooling down?
RyCliff
My thought was also just fuel but the sound is too consistent to be fuel sloshing around, no movement in the fuel gauge. It's more of a swinging around noise.
Paul Deslandes
is this when stationary or when moving slowly? If the latter it could be pads rubbing on the disk, a stone sitting on the calliper, wheel rim rubbing on something e.g. dedion ear. Is the frequency vehicle speed related? RyCliff
It's only once stationary I can hear it, to be honest I wouldn't be able to over the exhaust with the engine running. The rate of deceleration seems to change how far it sounds like it's 'swinging' though, and how long the noise carries on for.Maybe I'm just concerning myself needlessly as I haven't noticed any impact when driving. Fyldeflier
My 1.4 LE does this . I am pretty sure it's the fuel float or maybe a tank baffle . It's done it for years!it does vary with the level of fuel in the tank . I only really notice it when I reverse the car into the garage and then switch off and it lasts about 10 seconds.John. RyCliff
I'm guessing it's just coincidence that both of us have the same car.I'll carry on and ignore for now as it doesn't seem like a common issue and has no other notable effects.
