Would like to use these fasteners for front wings, I guess with sikaflex for gluing. However, it's a new build and I seem to remember one new build had to remove them to get through IVA. Can anyone corroborate this please? Tigger if anyone responds and they are viable based on my above concern, I will buy if nobody else does sooner.  Ta.

Hi Marcus,

I believe that another way to fix the big heads is to use fibreglass mat and resin. In the past I've used Sikaflex without issue.  Others will be able to advise about the IVA.

Drop me a PM when you find out.

Tim

Just looking at what I want to do with my wings, much prefer the Bighead method but slightly concerned at the mention if IVA issues? was there ever a response to this? I cant see what the issues would be but.... I assume everyone just gets these direct from Bighead as they appear to be the only supplier I can find & that these come in a 'bulk pack'...

As far as I know the IVA issue is that when viewed from the side the front of the front wing must project forward beyond a perpendicular line level with the wheel rim. This often means the wing at the rear is quite high and looks a bit odd. A work around is to fit using big heads and then fit with a second set after IVA.

I seem to recall that big heads are also available in small quantities from a marine specialist somewhere on the east coast. Hopefully someone will have the details.

As a personal preference I prefer to use cable tie bigheads on the front of the wing and bigheads with studs at the rear. This enables mudflaps to be easily fitted, sandwiching them between the stay and the wing.

OK, probably even more of a reason to use big heads rather than making permanent holes in the wings... I'll put this down to something to discuss with Caterham 'nearer the time' as they are putting it through the test for me.... not that its arrived yet LOL. I've scoured the internet for suppliers but only come up with the manufacturer... I'll phone them at some point when I can see & touch what I'm dealing with! its all very well looking at photo's & reading the manual...

Caterham will remove bigheads if fitted, and being prepared for IVA, actually that's not 100% true, they will over bond them, leaving them unrecoverable.    Its not the bighead or the tie wrap fixing, it's the minor (and I mean minor) lateral movement that caused IVA problems.  If you want bigheads for IVA get the version with the male thread, and bolt the wing to the stays, removable and bonded, but IVA compliant that  waits to be seen, but at least Caterham will present with them fitted.

Thanks... nothings easy! I assume when you smash your wing in you just chistle everything off & go back to tie wraps... heres hoping I never have that issue!  however doesn't look like I will get my delivery before xmas so wont have this to worry about for a while... more likely I'll be checking the 'sell buy' date on the bonding at the present rate of knots :-(
