Recommendations for engine upgrade of K SS to R400'ish perf

Recommended Posts

Hi all, would like recommendations please on the 'best' route to take my 150bhp K-series Supersport 2001 and give it a serious performance upgrade....I'm thinking reliable R400/500 levels of performance.

Current setup is wetsump, DVA tweeked, fun but only 150BHP.

I'm working on the basis that the car is as I like it, except for performance...

so recommendaiton of best route and who I could get to do the work....

Thanks all. Graham

Having been down this route I suggest you start saving your pennies!

Dave Andrews is your man for this and all the info can be found on his web site.

Depending on how you have achieved your current 150bhp I would think you would need some forged pistons and DVA big head, TB's, some decent cams, a suitable exhaust, after market ECU. With all this (on a1.8 engine) would take you up to around the 200bhp mark. To go higher from there you probably would need to think about an all steel bottom end.

If you want to go anywhere near a track you should also consider a dry sump system. When all this is added up you may find it just as cost effective to sell yours and buy a R400 (although the prices are strong at the moment). Another avenue is to wait for an upgraded engine to come along.
