Fridybrydy Posted October 20, 2014 Share Posted October 20, 2014 I have a K-series 1.8 engine mated to a Caterham six speed box. (Superlight R300 SV). I have a disconcerting rattle from the clutch/gearbox area whilst the engine is running and the gearbox in neutral. The rattle disappears when I depress the clutch. Do I need to be concerned? Mankee Posted October 20, 2014 Share Posted October 20, 2014 Could be not enough preload on the release bearing or just the input shaft spinning the internals of the box, which is normal. It's possible to mitigate it by upping the tickover speed a tad, or by encouraging an ultra-smooth tickover.JV Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The car goes great (Well it will do again when I fix my immobiser problem). I guess am just not use to hearing all the mechanical noises associated with running a car of this nature.
