Steve Campbell
Hi POBC ... I have a GoPro Silver 3+ but not really used it in anger yet. The main complaint appears to be battery life....and I only have the battery that came with it (suggested use time of ~1.5 hrs with wifi on...or even less ??) Could I use one of these to charge the GoPro battery (or keep it topped up) between track stints ? here What is the likely impact on my car battery assuming I'm re-charging the GoPro with everything switched off and not while running the car ? Would like to use it at this weekends Supercar Event and running the battery out in the first few sessions isn't on the plan ! Thanks
keybaud
You can also get 12v lighter socket USB cables, which I use, but I don't know the effect on the battery. If the cable reaches, you can charge/power it from the socket whilst it is recording. Edited by - keybaud on 16 Jun 2014 18:10:
Dr Slotter
I have a USB 12v power socket and then run a USB cable along the tunnel and up to the camera on the roll bar. Works fine. If you're set on charging when parked, I've never charged a GoPro, but a healthy Banner will happily charge a mobile phone a couple of times. Roger Ford
Go Pro 3 is rated at 3.8 Wh. Typical Banner-type battery will be around (28 x 12) = 336 Wh. So charging it should have a minimal effect on the car battery, even allowing for all the inefficiencies involved.
Steve Campbell
Thanks folks..can't charge in use as I only have the full go pro case so no access to the USB charging port. Thx for replies...I'll give it a go....
Dr Slotter
I drilled/Dremelled an appropriate hole in a GoPro case.
