Northern Banana
I'm considering which tap timer to use for next year, my first year racing. The vbox stuff is outside my budget and I want a solution that will display laptimes in the car and allow data logging for analysis post race. This AIM motorsport SOLO seems to tick the boxes, anyone used one?
Croc
Hi Paul - Another solution to check out is the Racechrono Touchscreen pro. I have had one for 3 years and like it a lot. Like a GPS screen unit but it live times either through its internal GPS or an external Qstarz one bluetoothed. Touchscreen works with race gloves on or can use attached stylus and is useful for its graphical displays in the pits after racing. Data exports as a CSV file and can be synced with any video through RaceRender/ Dashware.
Roger Ford
The Solo is great as a laptimer with predictive timings. The datalogging capabilities are a bit limiting since it's got no way to access revs, gears, etc. However certainly better than nothing. I use a DL1 for logging and recently got the Solo for laptiming. It's worth it as a laptimer, so I guess you can consider the logging capabilities as a freebie extra. Northern Banana
Thanks will look at that one Croc not sure if there is a UK distributor but it looks to be quite rich in features. Roger - did you hard wire your Solo or run it off the battery? With a built in GPS did you have any issues with position in the car to get a satellite fix? Thanks

Roger Ford
Running mine of the battery with a custom bracket (aka bent piece of aluminium sheet) on the top of the scuttle. Seems to get a GPS fix very quickly.
catastrada
I don't know if Alafano products are known/popular in UK. After AIM launched the Solo, Alfano launched their ADS GPS device you may also consider. I have an AIM MXL Dash with the GPS antena and I never had any issue to get the satellite fix. CharlesElliott
I also have an AIM solo and is a great way to do predictive. What race series are you planning to race in as some don't allow predictive timers.
