myothercarsa2cv
Are there any steel wheels out there off tintops that would fit the 7? Want to put the ZV3s on something super duper cheap. Graham King
MOCA2CV, I would have thought 14" wheels off any boggo Fiesta would fit ok. Graham.
myothercarsa2cv
No concerns about the offset?
Graham King
According to the mytyres website this is the spec of the 14" wheel of a Fiesta: 5½ x 14 4 x 108.00 x 63.30 ET: 43.50 4-hole steel wheel (6285). Have to be honest and say I don't know what the dedion 14" specification is. Graham.
myothercarsa2cv
Thanks Graham. All I know is that the 14" wheel is a 6J, and 4x108. No idea on the offset. To be honest, the whole concept of offset is slightly confusing to me
Graham King
I'd like to explain it properly but not sure I can either, the attached article here, goes some way towards it. Basically offset is the distance in mm from the centreline of the wheel to it's actual mounting face. So I guess that everything else being equal wheels with different offsets will fit (i.e. can be bolted on) but the car will not necessarily handle as fully intended. Graham. myothercarsa2cv
I'm in to the shady world of scrub radius now... In summary, it seems like it doesn't matter for the non-steering wheels, so long as they fit, apart from the minor changes a wider/narrower track will make. For the front wheels, the ideal is zero scrub (which is where the centreline of the wheel intersects with the steering line, or line between the balljoints, at the road), but for racers positive scrub (where the intersection is below the road) gives greater feedback but will have other side effects. Negative scrub just sounds bad unless you're expecting a blowout. From the sounds of things, positive or negative scrub can also induce bumpsteer. So as well as measuring my wheels, I should also check what offset my setup requires. I wish I'd never started thinking about it now
Area Representative Crudders Posted September 30, 2013 Area Representative Share Posted September 30, 2013 You want RWD wheels really mate. I would think the last RWD Ford to use 4 X 108 PCD was the Sierra - you might be lucky enough to find one in a scrappy. But if you decide that you really *would* like crap handling, my FWD Escort van will be going to meet its maker shortly, as it can clearly rust faster than I can weld 😳 Cruds
myothercarsa2cv
I have a car like that 😬 let me see if google knows the offset.
myothercarsa2cv
Ok so apparently they are ET35 - If I used 10mm spacers, that would bring them back to 25... Which seems close to what a search on BC suggests, but let me measure up when I get a chance. If its close enough, I shall certainly help dispose of the van Crudders, thanks for the kind offer! (This is all part of the master donut plan 😬 I'll be finished in 10years at this rate though...)
