Chris C
Did the Dowty seal work?? I too have a K series 7, which after 11 dry years has now developed 'the drip' ☹️ ☹️ I've tried different (aluminium & copper) washers, but none seem to work! john milner
My sump plug needed a helicoil fitted and the only way to seal that is with Hylomar Blue. The washer never gets a properly snug fit. I stripped the thread of my sump and it is has now been tapped out to 15mm. I was advised that helicoil inserts can come out next time the plug is removed so I might as well just have a bigger plug. Leak free using a 16mm copper crush washer, PTFE tape and blue Hylomar.
6speedmanual
Wipe plug clean with paper, coat the threads with Hylomar Blue and screw back in. It does not seem to matter if the sump threads are still oily/wet. (never done this without draining the sump! I reckon trying to get the plug out and back in whilst keeping most of the oil in the engine is a recipe for a large mess) Despite leaks of oil from almost every other orifice experience over the years and many cars, I have never replaced a sump plug washer and never had a leak from a sump plug. Member Jonathan Kay Posted July 17, 2014 Member Share Posted July 17, 2014 Any ideas why experiences vary so much? Jonathan
6speedmanual
The wide range of different leak experiences seems to exist outside those using Hylomar Blue Peter
