BSA
Any thoughts on a Indy Lap Time for the following car R500 Aero Screen Chassis 1.9 K 250bhp - 178bls ft Elite 6 speed sequential Box Nitrons - Avon Slicks - Titain 3.6 Diff sub 500 Kg Weight With a talented / semi professional Driver would a sub 50 second Lap be possible in this Vehicle with or without a tow ? jchasey
Yes, possible, but would be close. Lead (top 1 or 2) silhouette cars in the Intermarque series regularly get into the 49s, with similar power, 5 speed manual, albeit with wider slicks (9") and a rear wing, but are in the 750kg weight range. Pendennis
Presume your referring to an S3, yes sub 50's secs is achieveable with a decent driver Without a tow could get to 49.5 to 50.00, with a good tow 49.20 to 49.5 seconds. The car has to be well set up and the driver must know what he's doing 😬 Ian
Roger Ford
250 hp? I've done sub-50 with 80 hp. (And a couple fewer wheels)
BSA
Its a S3 Chassis , I thought with the right driver the car was capable of recording a sub 50 time. Matt
Alexander Gurr
I was doing very low 54 second laps in a 125bhp Academy car, so would have thought sub 50 second laps easily done in an R500!
CharlesElliott
Low 53s on 130bhp car with A048Rs - see here.
Z3MCJez
Alex - I think that's wrong for an Academy car. Low 56s is about right. The lap record in Supersport is only about 53.4 and that's more power, more aero and more grip. I just checked this year's races, and the fastest Academy lap was Gazda in 56.08. All lap records at Brands will be relatively recent as the speeds went up with the new surface. As to whether you can get under 50s in an R500 with a sequential box and slicks. Yeah - easy! 😬 Jez
Alexander Gurr
Jez...you are absolutely right. Time and poor memory have given me to exaggerate. My best laps were 56.4 seconds. I still think an R500 could go sub 50 seconds!
Z3MCJez
Motor racing memory, that's known as. It's like the situation where a straightforward outbraking manoevre can be described in a level of detail that makes Senna's first lap in the rain at Donington look mundane. James.S
CSR280 Eurocup car on V70's will just about do it but that is another 30hp. Never been round the Indy on slicks so nothing to compare really. Mag7's were there this year so a browse thru TSL will give you some ideas. Z3MCJez
50.2 was the best time recorded in the CSCC Mag 7s this year. So maybe not, "easy". That was in a CSR260. Jez
BSA
Hi all i didn't think it would be a time easily achieved, BTCC times this year were 48's 😬

Pendennis
I have raced there for many years on slicks and list 1b's, in my experience good slicks are worth 0.75 of a second over good list 1b's. I'd love to say it's more but I can't because in my car it isn't 😶🌫️
Z3MCJez
So a 49.5 then - which is pretty much where you started from 😬 Although I'm surprised that a top-spec Caterham can't beat a touring car. Jez
Pendennis
Think the BTCC's seem to have found some more pace in recent years Jez A top spec Caterham may be on a par with the BTCC's though, but a sub 50 sec lap in a R500 does take some doing, trust me 😶🌫️ I have seen a 300bhp 7 dip into the 48's, suspect it is also possible with a very well sorted 270bhp S3 High powered CSR's will ultimately be a bit quicker Ian
BSA
The BTCC car's now have fantastic traction i guess that's where the very high powered 7's loose out and the Areo package of course
James.S
Spy adn CC have had the R600 round the Indy circuit quite a bit, although on 300 suspension they may be able to help further. Hardest thing in getting a sub 50 time will be getting a clear run. Wouldn't bother though unless you really have no choice - it is a crap layout. I am pretty sure Graham Hill is getting quite a makeover this winter making all historic lap times redundean anyway. Save you money and get ont he GP instead - Awesome. Gnasher2
It was me that did the 50.2 at Brands to win the Mag 7 this year . My sons have both done sub 50's in my car and yes that was on medium V70's. Soft or super soft would have dropped the times again. Mark Bishop and Ian Conibear have both done high 49's around Brands on Slicks in the SEMSEC series in S3's. New NGTC cars are awesome on the brakes and run slicks but only run about 300bhp so not so quick on the gas. Track temp and compound of the tyre will be the key. Long story short. Yes. It can be done.

Gnasher2
Walley got in my way for a lap or two but was easy pickings as he had a 'power' problem!!! 😬 I'm going to let you and David do the development work for me on the R600 then I'll consider it.
