Bio
Has anyone changed their Sima timing belt yet 🤔 Is it a Ford Fiesta part and do you need to replace tensioners or water pump at the same time 🤔 Is there anythng to watch out for any special tools required 🤔 John
Martin J
I would like to know the answer to this also. Mechanic friend of mine says they are good for 100k miles or 10 years but please don't take that as gospel.
Domus
How old and how many miles has yours done? On Caterham's website they claim a long life belt. No idea what long life means though.
Bio
I have a VX, but asking for a fellow club member. Suspect that both the crank and cam pulleys are not keyed ☹️ Is the Sima engine from a Focus? How do you lock the crank and do you require special locking tools/ John

Steve Cornford
*wavey*Hi. Do you mean the serpentine v-belt? If so yes. I replaced mine when it split along its length. I got the replacement from local motor factors. If that is the belt you mean, let me know and I will dig out the invoice & part no.
Bio
Hi Steve Thanks for your reply but it's the timing belt that drive the cams. John
DJ.
The timing belt doesn't drive the water pump so no need to replace that. Caterham recommend 6 years on their service schedule for the timing belt. There are tools available on ebay to lock the engine in the correct position, but a later version is needed on some engines here I'm not sure about replacing the tensioner, hopefully someone more knowledgeable will be along Duncan
jj48
Hi Duncan- the water pump is driven by the serpentine belt as you correctly say but i have seen and replaced several water pumps due to coolant loss so it pays to look at that part as well!! Ben Smith who posts on here had the water pump fail on his 7 i think last year. Regards Richard
Steve Cornford
Searching internet found some suggesting that Ford now recomend 80k or 5 years, whichever is earlier. Might get my June 2007 Sigma with 50k checked out
