DaveMorris
fuel tank is full, rear of car is jacked up on top level of axle stands, and I'm checking de-dion tube etc at rear of car. I then see fuel dripping, at quite a rate, from the rearmost of the twin 45's. I assume that this is not normal. Could the float valve be passing ? What effect would this have on normal running / economy (I assume not good). Dave
Eugene
Yup, not normal... Something very amiss, and would indeed affect running - make it rich I expect... But, easy to check!
James_Russell
I've had this once, I had no time to rectify it (I was just about to go to the grid!) but the problem resolved itself and never re-occurred. I think it must've been a sticking needle valve.
DaveMorris
A quick strip and check is on the cards I think - got a longish trip coming up soon. Strange though as I just did an economy check on last tank of fuel, and seemed to be achieving somewhere in the 24-25mpg area (which I thought was pretty good). DaveMorris
Well, today I took the car to work. Refilled on way home and then checked both carbs with fuel pump running - no fuel passing anywhere. Then put car back onto ramps, and both with and without fuel pump running - no drips what-so-ever. Checked fuel consumtion over last 60 miles - again at/around 24-25 mpg. If tickover on the forthcoming trip gets lumpy then I can take lid off the carb and check float needle valve is free. I'm gonna leave it alone for now, and treat the dripping last night as an anomoly. Dave
