Drifter
Have done a search but can't seem to see much on this so wondering if anyone can advise if this is an issue: Have a 2002 1.6K which has been stored for about 5 months. It was last used "properly" in November/December and had a coolant change prior to this. At this time, the coolant level would sit at the max mark at its highest level (since the tank is at an angle). I started the car a few times over the winter and ran it up to temperature but not taken it out. I noticed today that the level is now just about minimum (bearing in mind the car has not been used for some time). After a 10 mile run today, it was a little higher but not as high as it was last year. There are no leaks that I can see and given the car was not using any coolant previously, would sitting around over the winter have caused this to happen? Roadsport06
No. Have a good check for leaks, its a sealed system. Keep an eye on it, if there are no signs of leaks and you are still losing coolant then it could be HG failing. Why are you running the car and not driving it? Just leave it, it will be fine wrapped up.
Johnty Lyons
coolant should be at MIN mark when engine is cold and car level the max mark when fully up to temp. It's a starnge fact but water expands as it heats up.
