Grubbster
As my car has covered 26000 miles I thought it might make sense to replace the A frame bushes. Believing this can be a PITA I bought a new A Frame so 2 of the bushes are already done - but I forgot to buy the bush to go in the dedion so I need to get one. Is there a method for getting the old bush out or is it a going to make me swear and wish I hadn't started
mav
probably the cheapest and simplest way is to cut it out using a junior hacksaw, esp. as you won't have the tube off the car. you can use the long bolt / spacer / drift method but that may well aslo involve serious heat and a big vice to get things moving. Go with the hacksaw method and it will take you less that 30 mins...
Shad
When I did mine last year I had a local engineering firm make up some bits to draw it out using some threaded bar and spacers, but it was still a nightmare as everything tries to slip and move around. Will definitely be trying the hacksaw approach next time, something I've done before on an old Honda to replace the bushes. Also, you might want to consider the Powerflex bushes instead. As I said, I replaced mine just over 12 months/10k miles ago and already I'm getting the same tell-tale knocking and clunking I had with the worn bushes before. millsn
It can be done with a flypress but yes, you will wish you hadn;t started. I'd contact James Whiting or other similar specialist perhaps Chris wheeler (Hoddesdon) also. I seem to recall he had a small press in the rear of his shop for exactly this purpose. There's also an upgraders special as an option - You might also wish to consider upgrading your dedion tube if all of this proves to be to much of a hassle
Grubbster
Well that took a while! 3 and a half years to be precise I've only just got around to doing this, what a bugger it is getting the old bush out of the dedion! Another of those jobs that probably didn't need doing, but as mine is 12 years old I thought it best to change while I have the car in bits. So, how do I get the new one in? At the moment the bush is in the freezer, I can heat the dedion whwere it fits, anything else?
