sevenmad
Has anyone with a sigma swapped up to a duratec? I''ve currently got 125 bhp but want more, and the 150 upgrade is £2.6K. I'm just wondering if it would be better to leapfrog to 175. What would need swapping in addition to the engine and what would the cost be? I know it might be cheaper to sell the car and buy another, but I'm rather attached to my self built s3, and want to consider all the options (but no I don't want a K series!). myothercarsa2cv
Well a new Duratec will set you back in the region of 2k. But then you have bellhousing, flywheel, clutch, mounts, ancilliaries (maybe you can carry these over, I don't know), electrics, so on and so forth. Offset that with what you could sell the leftover parts for, and you're looking at a bit more than the 150 upgrade. But then should you want more power in the future, it's a doddle Do it. Don't tell SWMBO
AndrewGP
What about tuning your existing engine? Something like here?
KRL
What about tuning your existing engine? Something like here? I think RatRace will soon have 200 BHP+ Sigma's as well, here is a quote from their website: Having some time ago developed the Ford Puma engine to some 240 Bhp we are currently developing similar upgrades for the Ford Sigma engine which will be available very soon. We also specialise in period and specialist design like Lotus Twin Cam, Vegantune VTA and Maserati and have also built a vast array of generic race engines and have competed in the highest levels of Motorsport with overwhelming results. All our engines are hand built in house and with our in house machining facilities we can replicate and reproduce quality products time after time. Tuning options for the Sigma are starting to develop so that may be worth looking into compared to the cost of a Duratec conversion.
Eccles
Hi, I had been wondering about this (Duratec) as a possible route for more power in the future (got the Sigma 150). Does anyone know if it can use the same exhaust primaries/hole in side of car? Cheers Ivan
sevenmad
Hi Eccles, That's the kind of info I'm after. I'm not at all sure what can be saved from the sigma installation. However judging by the few responses (thanks for those who've replied) it would appear that no one has attempted the sigma to duratec option ☹️
Piers Rendell
Sevenmad - I was down in Alkham valley/A260 today in the 7 and still have not bumped into you while on a local blat. I went across from Lydden (A2) over towards the 260, looking for a local road down to Alkham - I didn't find it. regards Piers
