Gun Bunny
Im seeking advice for a problem that I think Im about to discover as I move closer to my Xflow to Zetec conversion. I have a gap of 620mm from the floor to the front underside of my bonnet. My Xflow is 510mm tall and fills this gap with 35mm free under the bonnet & ground clearance of 75mm. I have now measured the 1.8 Zetec and its 635mm from the top of the cam sprockets to the bottom of the 2 piece factory sump. If the Raceline sump is 160mm tall this will reduce the total height by 60mm to 575mm. So with zero clearance between the cams & bonnet I will have ground clearance of 45mm I don’t fancy a power bulge, so is it a smaller sump or wind up the suspension?. How did you get yours to fit under the bonnet?. Olly
CaterBram
Have you allowed for stipping the cam belt guard off, could not get mine to fit with it on. i've 5mm clearance from the underside of the nose to the cam belt and 75mm under the sump, not had to change the suspension setup at all but then it depends how it was set originally. However the oil filler does only just clear the bonnet. And this is using the standard 1.8l escort sump. -----Q469 WET, 1990 Long Cockpit in Ali except for the red bits. Class 2 150 BHP Zetec. Gun Bunny
Hi Chris Yes thats with cam cover lip removed & the timing belt cover removed. I thaught my ride height was normal with wishbones parallel & nose slightly lower than the rear. Olly
CaterBram
Sounds like you probably had a low suspension setup to start with, it deffinatley does fit, but sound's you might need some height tweeking afterwards -----Q469 WET, 1990 Long Cockpit in Ali except for the red bits. Gun Bunny
Chris Thanks for the photos, I can see you have the silver top engine, mine is the black top Focus engine. That might explain why yours slipped in with clearance to spare. Olly
Pezky
I have a black-top focus engine- supplied by Raceline. Believe me, bonnet & ground clearance were the least of my problems when changing from xflow to zetec Just finished the conversion, first blat hopefully next week penn7's pesky Zetec 😬
Drumster
Olly, Just got mine back on it's wheels today, but haven't measured the ground clearance. My Raceline black top fits in with no apparent problems. The 7 is now on the trailer so won't be able to give you any measurements until next weekend ----- Chris Alston C7CAT Supersprint
Brian Cookson
I had no problem with my Raceline blacktop. You're welcome to have a look - I'm in Weymouth. bc
Gun Bunny
Thanks Chris I had a look at your website earlier thinking you had a photo looking under the bonnet with the nose removed showing the clearance. Olly

CaterBram
I'll take some picies of the clearance under the nose cone & bonnet as well as some of the starter motor this weekend. Had a major problem on Sunday when I went out, seem's I need to allow much more time on a sunday morning as I can now go much much much further on a tank full despite giving her some right foot abuse. 😬 Edited by - CaterBram Jnr on 8 Feb 2011 07:51:
Phil
Hi Olly When you remove the bolts from the X/flow engine mounts to chassis rail you will notice they are to short for the Raceline mounts so you will have to find some new longer ones. I thought the Raceline mounts suspended the engine lower and the wet sump then helped with the clearance. I think my lower arms are horizontal on the lower suspension.
