Petrolhead
I have an Optimate 3, it has been fine until recently. When I first connect it to the battery (using clips) the yllow (test/charge) light comes on. I return to it a couple of hours later and the yllow light has gone out but no other lights are on except the green power light. The car has not been used for a couple of months but the batter has 13 volts in it. So is it just a case the green led (maintain) light is buggered or could it be something else. If it's on the way out what would reccomend replacing it with? Optimate 4 or somit else? ----- My site-----

Stationary M25 Traveller
Is there a connector in the cable ? Check connections. Wiggle the clips on the battery terminals. I get this sometimes with the plug into my under-dash power socket. Quick wiggle sorts it.
Petrolhead
Well It was originally connected using a power socket under the dash and on wiggling the yellow light came on again BUT not after connecting using the clips this is when I discovered the problem The unit must be working as I have not used tghe car for a couple of months and its started an hour ago, first crank :) ----- My site-----
Archie Procter
I have an optimate 4 and it's excellent - you can pick them up for about £40 brand new on ebay. As well as people trying to get £150 for them!!
Petrolhead
Yes the lowest price is £43.55 delivered. BUT the way the post is at the mo I would be happy to pay a bit more and get one from a shop on the Westgate Road ----- My site-----
Stationary M25 Traveller
If it appears to be working ok, maybe take case off and look for loose wires or dry solder joints on output cables or on the 'missing' LED ?
stevethemook
Mine showed exactly the same symptoms and found one of the LED's had moved and was lighting the inside of the Optimate and not through the hole so you couldn't see it Steve Northerner in a Nova Violet Brute.S777 XTC Le Mans 2010 here
