alpole
I have a 2008 CSR260 superlight and decided to take it for a blag after work today sunshining and all. But for some reason It wont engage first gear. The gear seem to select and then when I release the clutch it pops out and crunches. Anyone else had this experience and suggestiond for likely cause. The car has 7300 miles and has had 8 services at CC midlands the last of which was 2 weeks ago.Thoughts would be appreciated.
Rich N
Not sounding too good for the state of 1st gear in your gearbox.. not too sure what else is could really be...
Stationary M25 Traveller
Eight services in 7300 miles and 2 years 😳 !!!!!! Hopefully, with the service revenue they have earned from you, CC may wish to have a look at this for you as a goodwill gesture ?
charlie_pank
I bit my tongue and didn't reply to this last night after a couple of beers. There's really nothing else it could be except a problem with the gearbox. My guess is that you have a bent selector fork so that when you push 1st gear home, it's still not sliding the cog far enough for the dogs to mesh. But it really doesn't matter, I can't think of anything that would cause these symptoms that wouldn't require the gearbox to come out and get taken apart. Look out for the 'ping-****s' there are plenty of those parts in a gearbox. back here because I want to be.
Andy Doughty
Check the gear box mounting has not moved or worked loose and is restricting the stick going forwards enough?
alpole
Very strange . Booked car in to CC midlands and took it there this morning however upon driving out the garage first gear was back and working fine. The guys from Caterham looked at it anyway and replaced a small plastic guide on the gear stick and touch wood its all working well. Excellent service from Brett at Caterham Midlands and thanks for your comments and thoughts. Alan
