K Series water temp

My k series has developed a high water temp reading. When the engine warms up top hose gets warm then at around 80-90 the thermostate opens bottom hose warms up, all hoses get hot and about 90-100 fan comes on and cools engine down. all good stuff., but this is in the garage! Out on the rd the temp gauge gets into the red ! fitted new thermostat same problem. cant see any leaks and no water in oil or using water. could my temp sender be at fault? i`m open to suggestions.

If you have replaced the thermostat, maybe there is still some air trapped in the system (in the heater ?). Could be the temp sender, but air probably a favourite. Was heater valve open when you filled/bled the system after changing the thermostat ?

i jaked the front of the car up undid the bleed screw on the top of the radiator and ran the car till warm. toped up water bottel. all hoses including the heater hoses were hot but i didnt open the heater valve. do u think there is an air lock sumwhere?

Should do it with heater turned on. Try bleeding again and squeeze hoses to try and get the air out. It will move to the highest point of the system. Good luck.

Tyr replacing the temperature sender (the brass one) in the water rail.

You may find that it is just the sender that has died.

 

Only dead fish go with the flow....!

Have looked on the caterham site and the temp senders dont cost that much so fitting a new one wont hurt

SORTED! I re bled the cooling system paying particular atention to the heater and now it runs at 80 constantly even during hard driving. I must have had air sumwhere in the system probably the heater. All is well now, just to many bank holiday motorists!

Hurrah. Glad it was an easy fix and you got to enjoy a BH blat. Have to get up earlier to beat the tourists.
